No, I'm sorry if that wasn't more clear....let me try it this way....

Normally, a new hire is seat locked for 24 months in the bid / assigned airplane. However, the contract allows anyone to bid out of a seat lock to a fleet new to the airline, but only for the first few years the new type is on the property. The A330 will no longer be considered a new fleet around May of 2013, so if you were hired prior to May of 13 and were in the 71 or 76, and IF there was a subsequent bid with an opening in the 330, (published prior to May of 13), you could bid out of your current seat lock to the 330 ONLY, but are then seat locked in the new airplane for 36 months. If you did not choose to bid to the 330 during that time you'd have to wait 24 months and for another open bid. For those hired after May, you'll be held in your bid / assigned seat for 24 months as there will no longer be a "new" fleet type.

So the bottom line is they will probably have openings for new hires in the 330 in 2013, but a better bet is they will put new hires into all three fleets. We'll probably know more when the next bid comes out, which is generally expected in May or June next year.

One other thought....there's been some discussion on this thread about time to upgrade and growth...and while that's certainly a consideration in your career, I'd suggest that no ones crystal ball is very accurate more than about 12 to 18 months out. I've never seen any 5 year plan on paper work out that way in real life five years down the road...there are just too many variables that none of us has control over. We all know how cyclical this industry is; for every upswing....

Come to Hawaiian because you like the company, the people, the routes, the type of flying...and because you're willing to work together towards the overall success of the company and your future......beyond that....try not to make plans or develop expectations...just enjoy! The job is challenging, and there's a lot to learn....

Received this e-mail a couple of days after the mix up...anyone else get one? Just wondering if this is a good sign or just a whoops e-mail again. Haven't heard anything for P3 yet. Interviewed late October.

 

Any current HAL guys care to share most junior Seattle FO and base size?

 

That would be a good sign. In my experience (not a HAL pilot...yet) that email is sent shortly before the invite email. Don't get your hopes up too soon, but my magic 8 ball says its good.

 

A HAL pilot covered this a few pages back.

Seattle is senior, expect at least a couple of years until you can bid in, although a few got in at just over a year.

Base is very small, and questionable if it will be around since its a 767 base and the 767 is going away.

 

Thanks for the info and not roasting me for it. I saw that info, I was more interested in specific hire date. I thought of the 767 issue in Seattle as well. Curious if the airbus fleets will migrate there. The last financial I read indicated a future for Europe. Interesting to see what happens in the coming years.

 

Three hired around Oct-Nov 2011 are at the bottom.. it's about 75 numbers senior to the most junior (about 604).... The thing is, who knows if anyone will move off that list anytime soon... it was luck and timing that got them that base inside 1 year... the base is likely to shrink before it expands. They were at the right place at the right time.

I keep hoping for a westcoat base myself, but resigned to commuting for sometime if not. Commute is doable if you live in SEA, PDX, LAX or SFO area.

I'd say average is 14 hours but can be as much as 20 or as little as 10... higher (more efficient) trips tend to go senior..
