Floats in Alaska
#12
You bet! I'm down here now, and will be returning tomorrow. First thing is that you really should see what island life is all about, first hand. It's not for everyone. If you've worked remote villages, you'll know what I mean about lack of services, an indigenous population that one has to be wary of, the lure of the bottle, etc. That's probably the biggest challenge, because the days off appear to be in 2's and 3's.... they only schedule you for 17 days of work, but the days off are in little chunks that keeps a guy on the island. Going home for visits sounds like a once a month possibility, and that might only be for a few days.
Anyway, I'll write more later!

Never heard back from the guys in St. Croix. Go figure... but I sent a few emails on a long shot up to Alaska, and found a place that brought me on with minimal float time. I'm now learning the Beaver on floats, and it's pretty amazing. The airplane isn't a sports car or anything, but I love the old round stuff and the history it's been part of.
How's things on your side of the fence?
