From CAL Internal News: Growth spurs new pilot hiring.
"VP of Flight Operations Fred Abbott was quoted in a recent issue of Airline Pilot Careers Magazine discussing CO's recruitment of pilots.
To support CO's significant international expansion, this year to date, CO has hired 248 pilots. Flight Operations plans to continue hiring at a rate of about 16 pilots per week beginning in September and expects to hire 232 more new pilots by the end of 2005. The airline expects to continue hiring into 2006. CO is the only network carrier currently hiring pilots."

According to the mins, there does not seem to be a req for PIC turbine time, only 1000 PIC fixed wing OR 500 fixed wing PIC AND 500 SIC jet... or am I reading this wrong???
1,500 hours fixed-wing total flight time
1,000 hours fixed-wing PIC time, or 500 hours PIC time and 500 hours SIC time in a turbojet
1,000 hours fixed-wing turbine time
1,000 hours fixed-wing multi-engine time (civilian or military) or 1,000 hours single-engine military fighter jet time
A current ATP written exam
A current first class FAA medical
A current passport
A Bachelor's degree is highly desired

Hiring Question
Hello,
Does anyone know what it means if you are in the bucket. I guess there is a few different stacks. My friend told me that I would be placed in the bucket, but they wanted to see some more turbine PIC. I understand that they can be picky, but I have heard alot about people being hired without any. If someone has any insight on this, or what they different stacks are and what they mean, I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

8/30, 9/6, and 9/16 New Hires
Although I do not know what "the bucket" is, I do know that 12 new hire pilots were in class on August 12 and another 12 started on September 6.
16 new pilots will be in class on September 16th. I do not have the breakdowns yet. When I get them I will forward it to everyone.
Looks like 16 pilots will be hired weekly until the end of the year.

It does look like everyone is showing up for class.
In the past alot of airlines were hiring a significant amount of pilots and applicants had their pick of the litter. At that time Continental was not the "preferred" airline to get on with. A friend of mine went to UAL and passed on CAL at the same time I started here. He is now on furlough with no end in sight.
Go figure....
