I'd actually be commuting from Texas as well, at least to start.

Do they allow reserves to bid more than 3 days on? I know at some other airlines commuters lump extra days together.

Up to 6. It's the best cause if under 4 you can't get long call or released early. So most commuter reserves do 5/6

Also plenty of pilots hired put of cities that are home to other big airlines like ATL, ORD, HOU, EWR to name a few...It's because the are feeing this airlines at their current regional.......
Oh yeah...your address on your resume, that's how they'll know where you live. Not the address on your certificate, medical, driver's license. Certainly not the information that they get from the background check that they do on you before deciding to hire you or not.

Ah, the commute from Texas. You’ll remember the Alamo because you’ll be outnumbered 10 to 1 by AA pilots in the jumpseat, rampers kids, and second cousins on buddy passes. Out of DFW I can almost never get directly to JFK, and with LGA I’m in the jumpseat about 45% of time.

Second this, while the post itself is hilarious DFW-NY is probably up there in terms of the worst possible commutes.

Actually in ATX right now. Not hired yet so nothing to worry about yet.

What would be the best commute?

I’ve flown with a couple AUS commuters (I’m JFK). They say it isn’t terrible.

JB sometimes scales it back to one flight a day on the weekends and it’s a 190. The advantage of DFW-NYC is the frequency of flights (every 60-90 minutes depending on the day). AA everyday and Spirit a couple times a week. Also keep in mind there’s a train from DAL-DFW for $2.50 a ride. I typically only use it on the way home but that opens the door to SWA and Alaska. Note on that - the best keep secret used to be Virgin from DAL-LGA. Always 30 open seats, a free meal, and a movie. Now Alaska put an RJ on it so it’s capacity restrained.

Delta out of DFW is an RJ and I’ve only successfully gotten a seat about 5% of the time. There’s usually 7+ Delta FAs and the junior most has 32 years seniority.

Worst case this summer was 4 Jetblue Pilots that showed up for the same AA flight to NYC.

Note on AA - two bag only Nazi gate agents in DFW (so don’t look like a Sherpa). If they take your bag it’s no less than 45 minutes to get it from baggage claim in LGA. I always try to get it into the cockpit of the Airbus but that’s successful about 75%. I’ve been doing this commute for 3 years. I’m considering FLL.

Or if someone keels over or retires at one of three DFW metroplex Fortune 50 Flight Departments that I have contacts at (and type ratings in their aircraft) I’ll strongly consider turning in my papers. I’m not moving for an airline gig. I’ve been burned in the past. The time spent commuting coupled with transit between the two NYC airports is - in my opinion - unsustainable long term. The only thing you can never get back in life is time. Other gigs, other ways to make money. Time is finite. I underestimated the commute. It’s my error. Now it’s time over money for me.
