Here's a newsflash crgok9: You can make time and a half at other carriers for working overtime too.
Everybody knows about your premium rates. They don't justify anything else.
I'm trying not to pile on, but when jB guys start throwing the time and a half argument for working extra I have to call BS. Doesn't change the rates for the rest of the month.

As far as what I do to encourage a union, people that know me at our company very clearly know my position on a union. I'm not shy about it. While I am not an ALPA lover, I see ALPA as a good choice because so much is already built into the membership. Legal, medical, and years of negotiating at the various tables. In our case, possibly, the ALPA merger and acquisition clause. I see this as a very real issue for B6 in the future. Have I started any petitions? No. But, I have a voice and I know that there are those that listen. 14 pilots showed up at Herndon recently to speak with ALPA about B6. Had I known of the meeting I would have tried to make it 15 pilots to hear them out and find out...what's next?
Give that a few moments of critical thought. United pilots don't hate Delta. American pilots don't hate Southwest. Northwest pilots don't hate USAir. We're all union and although some take a lump from the company everyone has the same ultimate goal: A good job, good living, collective bargaining.
The reason JetBlue has such a bad reputation is it and its pilot group have been counter-productive to these goals. I won't rehash the reasons why; I am just making the astute observation for the reason they are seen as the Judas of the industry right now.
I can give you my word that the minute JetBlue begins the unionization process every union pilot will lend support to the pilot group.
One thing I don't want to hear is that the "reason" for unionization is the ALPA merger and aquisition clause. Again--it makes me feel that the non-union pilt group is simply using the system instead of being productive to the system.
JetBlue has a coast to coast route system, 1800 pilots, onerous mangement. The time is now.

I never said everyone needs to be in the same union. APA, IPA, ALPA, Teamsters .. I don't care. I'm tired of all of the justifications given by national sized carriers pilot groups who are actively engaged in work rule destroying activities. JB fits the bill to this to a tee. It's not me that better wake up, it's you.
I just got a 10% raise from JetBlue, no union, no contractual language, just common sense. Will make $80K as F/O and $140K as CA. Will pay zero in Union Fees. Life is good.
Your next letter should be labeled to the 'Men of JetBlue' - we don't have 'boys' working for us.
P.S. Are you really a Professor - I thought they are smart - you seam kind of dumb?

It's no wonder this pilot group is being raped:
It sounds like the first time he has worked at a company that he wasn't required to buy his own uniform. That's quite a perk. Even McDonalds provides it's employees uniforms.
But I suppose every pilot group has its 3 percenters...
I am certain there is also a core group at JetBlue that simply need leadership and with it would gladly welcome a union.
Unions are for kids - real men do their own negotiating.

1. Because I like it.
2. Because there is always funny stuff to read on Airline Forums posted by
people you have a lot of opinion and little knowledge...
3. Because after GA, Corporate, Legacy, Commuter and LCC, I have now found the best place to fly for.
4. Because our uniforms look cool and are paid for by the company, just like out luggage and laptops
5. Because I like the cool folks I work with - Pilots, Flight Attendants, Gate Agents.
6. Because we have Management I can talk to.
7. Because we don’t need no stinking Union.
8. Because we provide a service to our customers who appreciate it.
9. Because I’ll make $80K as F/O and $140 as CA flying a cool, new A320.
10.Because we own the future.

Wonder what the safety committee at JB has done to promote airport improvements, etc. It's not ALL about pay.

You know something guys, I realize just how little you really know about B6. Never underestemate the power of stupid people in numbers. That is a quote that someone I know uses. What I see here are a "few" B6 haters that have nothing better to do than to attempt to throw insults and disdain for others, simply because someone refuses to adhere to your particular agendas.
You know something, Pro, my life is pretty darn good right now. It amazes me that first you want us to have a union. Then, I actually admit that I would not mind a union on our property. Then you say, wait a minute, I don't like your reasons for wanting a union, you are just using the system. You are killin me with your ignorance.
Truly, none of you have any idea of the truths behind B6 and their operations or the pilot group here. BTW braniac, we don't negotiate our contracts individually...we speak as a group.
Yes, we have a safety department that is very involved with airports, FAA and the group. Also, our time and a half is not for overtime. So...in a nutshell, you guys have fun tearing B6 apart since you obviously have a lot of time on your hands. I did mention B6 haters...they are only here. It probably amounts to .001% of the overall pilots in our beloved industry. While you guys are dismantling B6 and figuring out how you are all going to bring us to our knees with sticks and stones I'll be out earning a decent living with my 20 days off a month while doing so off of the backs of you guys...it's been a pleasure folks.
