Bidding the A320 or E190

Does anyone have any current info in regards to bidding for one airframe vs the other. QOL, trips, reserve time, the split of airframes being offered lately? etc... (for someone commuting from FL)

This is JetBlue. QOL will suck on either airframe.

Depending on where you commute from in FL you might want the Airbus so you can bid FLL and sit reserve at home. Don't count on getting 190 MCO for a long time.

Major airlines are hiring our FOs from either airframe, so it doesn't matter which one you get if you're trying to move on to an airline that actually offers some QOL and industry standard pay.

I am in the 190 BOS I pick QOL (day tripper and productive day trips) over money 10% difference between the two right seats. That being said once we get a contract I will be gone to the 320.

Much of your answer deals with the work rules of a new contract, of which we have no idea when that will get done.

It all sucks! Seriously.

Currently it is rumored to be ~18 months.

LGB

Can anybody tell me about time to get to LGB? Or date of junior hire there?

Thanks!

LGB is a crap shoot. It’s gone from 1 year+, to a class with 4 involuntarily getting it in training. Most junior currently is an Aug ‘17 hire. But there haven’t been any vacancies in the past 2-3 system bids. Really depends on upgrades, as that will usually free up some slots, but I know a few people in JFK/BOS waiting to bid over to the west coast. So currently, not happening anytime soon out of training... but you never know

On rsv on the bus JFK. Looks like reserve time will be right around 1 year from DOH based on the last system bid. QOL sucks, but living in base helps. Commuting will likely be easier for you to/from JFK with AA/DL/VA commute options added.

You can get really lucky as a west coaster and get the e190 out of training, then watch guys junior to you get forced LGB out of training shortly after, then when your seat lock is up 2 years later you can’t hold it for several bids.

This is an east coast airline. I came here a couple years ago and we were told we were going to expand the West coast. It hasn’t, and it just won’t happen without a merger/acq. If you live within driving distance to LGB, planning on coming here may ok if AA/DL/UA/FDX/UPS/SWA/ALK/K4 won’t hire you, so long as you are willing to commute to NY for a couple years. Otherwise as a west coaster I’d go to SKW/CPZ until one of the above call and avoid this place.

Do people usually bid for the 190 in class? I'm fairly young, so will be junior in my class, but really want to be on the bus. Would be a bit bummed if I got the 190. I'd live though.

Have you applied to Spirit or Frontier? Immediate Airbus seat!

If the status quo continues you'll be bummed whichever plane you get. Avoid JB. Pay and QOL are horrible and it's a toxic place right now.

yayairplanes 04-07-2018 04:46 PM

Hi guys, thanks for the super helpful information. Can't wait to work with you all.

nuball5 04-07-2018 04:56 PM

If your commute is easier to BOS, then I'd opt for the 190. For JFK, the Airbus.

There are way more bus openings than 190, my class and a couple others I had friends in the 190 went senior. That said, you need to grow up and get over your shiny jet syndrome. Both pay garbage, both have the same garbage work rules, with the bus you’ll be doing red eyes.

Right.
Man all I know is if you are going to be on reserve you want to be on the 190 vs the bus. Think red eyes red eyes oh and red eyes. The bus will still be there in two years it’s not the end of the world.

junglejet527 04-07-2018 08:05 PM

How is seniority decided in class?

Well, thanks for the info even though you still managed to get in a personal insult.

Don’t forget the wheel chair push race and the seat back bobbing contest.

But will you “live” though? Just what we need another delicate juice box snowflake...

Papa Bear 04-09-2018 05:25 AM

Who cares...
Any new hire with half a brain and a set of eyeballs will clearly be able to see what this place really is. I imagine most will be flying a 737 somewhere by this fall.

yayairplanes 04-09-2018 06:55 AM

Oh man, I knew somebody was going to say snowflake. After I posted that, I thought to myself "I bet one of these precious snowflakes is going to call me a snowflake." It's the go-to for you type of people.

The same is said about virtually every airline on here. If you follow all the threads on here, it’s amazing ANY airline has pilots to fly their planes.

“You type of people”???? What’s that supposed to mean?

How does someone deserve a personal insult for their opinion?

Sounds like the liberal agenda silence those with an opinion that don't match yours?

I don't get it? Is it because you can hide behind a screen name and bully and that makes it deserving?

He’s free to complain about the prospect of being assigned the 190, and we’re free to make fun of him for it.

Did you see the picture on BluePilots of DL’s seating area being packed to standing room while beside them bluejets seating area was empty at the latest job fair? What do you suppose would cause something like that? #keepsgettingbetter

I would be the first to admit if it they were true...simply not. Fact.

Try it in person rather than hiding behind the keyboard. Would you? Usually in the real world there would be possible repercussions to such insults. Just saying thats what makes it cowardly.
