I don’t like the implication that I have to engage in some forced social interaction with my coworkers just because I’m in aviation. Does a vet take his vet techs out on a a Tuesday night for cocktails? Do engineers go to happy hour 3 nights in a row midweek? Accountants?
CA I flew with on a long SAN layover - We HAVE to go to the oldest bar in San Diego! I’ll buy the first pitcher. The first? How much you planning on binge drinking? Thanks but there’s a boxing gym I like to hit up when I here. I’m scheduled for a class at 6am. You’re welcome to come... funny no one ever takes me up on that. When I’m in MSY I usually take a class at the New Orleans school of cooking - open Bloody Mary bar and free flowing keg of Abita by the way. Sometimes I go out and sometimes I don’t. And now as CA I don’t agree with the expectation that I’m supposed to be director of the fun committee. Each situation is unique. I see nothing wrong with hanging with the crew as long as you quit drinking before you quit thinking. Now maybe if they wrote a few papers about safety and could discuss at length how bad the lodge food is for you, maybe you would change your mind? :) |

Didn’t a United guy get sued a few months ago? Oh and GfYs.
Which makes it even more interesting. |

Working at one of the”Misfit Toy” airlines like Alaska or Jetblue/Frontier/ Spirit it is even more important to steer clear of layover crew interaction....Frequently becomes obvious why a pilot/fa is at Alaska and not one of the Major airlines. Sketchy backgrounds and sketchy behavior come out on layovers...
With all that said, with respect to BlueJet, every word of what you just said is completely *false* 99% of the time. And, one of the legacies has been my primary commute for approaching a decade, and I've been in their cockpit with SEVERAL very socially and emotionally "strange" dudes. Now many (not all) BlueJet's "horrible 100" might be a different story... |

I personally got hired at BlueJet at a time when most other "real" majors weren't hiring. I also have a spotless background and a college degree. I also have professional experience outside aviation and have a personality disposition such that the intelligent, stable and well adjusted types tend to text me on off days to keep up a friendship outside the cockpit.

Sunday - roasted chicken Monday - chicken enchiladas Tuesday - Tortilla soup with chicken. Hey are you guys rolling over chicken from the day before?.. Three day old chicken? No. BS. Worked in restaurants. Cook as a hobby. The Lodge is pure “crack open the can from SYSCO” and heat it up. Food at Applebee’s would likely be better. |

Been saying this for years. Watched my last sim partner order a burger at lunch. Was going to get one. Cook - let’s be honest these guys aren’t chefs - pulled a patty from freezer and threw it on grill. Looked brown. Hey, did you guys cook the patties THEN freeze them THEN just throw it on grill? Yep. So you’re basically just warming a previously cooked frozen burger. It’s McDonalds thin. Pure culinary laziness. Will cook fresh in 4 min. Why not just microwave it instead of faking a cooked burger? I’ll have a salad.

But you bring up a great point about lots of places. A buger for me anyway 80/20 a little salt pepper, I like a thin smashed type burger quick cook cheese and a potato roll and done. Like 5 mins max. And all these hotels/lodge/restaurants pull out the frozen crap. |
