....or maybe longer. I can see them keeping the ones they own and using them for all the Northeast short hops.

I see them keeping them for awhile longer but not unless they do some cabin work to them. They are looking rough.

Robin was asked this question specifically at a pocket session a few months ago in Boston. His answer was no, that having 3 airplane types at once is going to be a major drain on the company from a cost perspective. The quicker we get to the 220, the better.

Of course they could change their minds. 60 320s will be updated by the end of the year, another year to finish the rest(maybe). So if they were going to refresh some 190s the logical time would be in 2021. Don’t see that happening while taking a new airplane that’s supposed to be a replacement. JetBlue is young enough that replacing airplanes is uncharted territory for them. It remains to be seen what logic they lean toward.

My guess is the 190 will go away, but won't even start doing so for another 3 years, maybe 4. There will be overlap. But within 7-8 years, I would imagine most will be sold.

Spoke to the director of MX. He said the 190's will start going away as soon as the 2nd or 3rd 220's starts showing up. Said the ones we OWN will be going away first because the leases wont be up on the older ones until about 2023 or so. He said he couldnt remember which tail started the ones we own but its around 290JB or so. So those will start going away first starting with the oldest ones we own. So that means tails 178 to like 289 will be around the longest unless they start getting to the lease dates before the newer ones like 368 ect are gone.

But he said the last he heard was the company is shooting to have all 190's off property within 2 months of the 60th A220 showing up on property.

But this is the aviation industry so anything is subject to change.

So are the new A320s additive, or are there going to be retirements from the existing fleet?

There are no new a320s. Of the 130 A320s, 60 will have gone thru the cabin refresh this year, and the rest will be done in the year or so following. The new planes to be delivered in the next 6 years are 85 A321NEOs, of which 13 are LRs, and 60 A220s which are supposed to be 1 for 1 replacements for the 190s. As for a320 retirements, last investor call they said there were no plans for any as of now. The question specifically asked for the next 5-7 years iirc.

Gotcha, thanks - misspeak on my part - meant 321s.
