Need a little more info than that to just give you an answer.

if you don’t work here you likely have close to 0% chance of getting a VDA. If you’re number one in seat and plane you’re likely to get a call. I can almost promise you that if you’re a NH you’re not going to be working for 200% for a long time unless you bid 190 Boston/jfk FO.

I have a coming class date. What I am trying to find out is for when eventually i get based in FLL i could be on RSV and be available on days off for premium pay in case they call.
Base on what you say premium pay is based on seniority order for the people that put themselves on the list?

Correct. You put in for VDA and they go down the list in seniority order until they get a bite. Some senior people do very well this way. As a junior reserve in a not junior base, expect not to get called very often/at all. My first three years in LAX I was called one time for a VDA. Basically, don’t plan on it.

If you can time things right you can be relatively senior, do reserve (never get called) but then get VDA during certain times of the month (called Weekends). Literally fly 1-2 VDA trips a month on top of your RSV guarantee crediting 90 hours and maybe flying 15 hours...That's for the big brains though.

Perfect world. This is a new hire going to a more senior base in the system. I don’t know the FLL320 FO reserve situation. But good luck as a new hire getting Friday, Sat Sunday off and getting them to call you for a VDA or being able to finagle a two day PREM on reserve.

On paper it sounds easy. In reality as a new hire, you’re going to be sitting around a lot of time on the weekend waiting for the phone to ring. Also, good luck not working on reserve Thursday to Monday on SCL Reserve.

Just being honest time frame wise before you can get VDA, depends on FLL seniority growth, and your ability to make your schedule work for it. My guess without doing any research 2-3 years before you’re consistently getting calls. But idk the FLL situation that well.

Better luck as a 190 FO in Bos/jfk.

your mileage may vary.

You’d probably find yourself picking up premium open-time over waiting for a VDA call until you got more senior in FLL. I’m fairly senior, and I find myself liking the premium system overall more than VDA. Obviously VDA pays more, but there’s several advantages of premium. No idea how often trips in FLL get labeled as premium.

From purely a VDA standpoint in your situation you’d be best off being on the 190. Many locals in FLL do very well for themselves because it’s not a base. Anytime stuff goes sideways and they need someone ASAP, they go down the list of people who live local.

Been in FLL more than 3 years. I think I’ve gotten called 2 times. The very senior FO that don’t upgrade end up working the VDA system. If you have any doubt go look at the VDA list on flica.

FLL question

Hello, just curious.
How long before a new hire can be awarded FLL as a domicile? Are there any chances of getting FLL right out of training?
