SkyWest-er here with an interview later this month. I live 15 minutes from LAX and only do locals, home every night. A couple JB jumpseaters have told me there's a decent amount of them on JB out of LAX. How senior do these go/ how realistic would it be to hold only locals?

I can not say this strongly enough. If you want to be based in LAX go to literally any other airline with a lax base.

JB should be the absolute bottom of your list.

the most junior FO holding day turns in LAX was a 2016 hire.

What RiddleEagle says may not be nice but that doesn't change the fact that is 100% True

Damnn…..yeah some people do that stuff in STI and SDQ but I’d stay away……………

In all seriousness the locals (two LAS turns) as you say are very very senior.

Check out Alaska, UAL

Just curious. What’s the most junior CA Doh in LAX? Thanks!

06/2016 currently, but next spring the Jr. CA is looking to be a 03/2016 hire.

You guys are not painting an accurate picture for our SkyWest bro. Locals go senior in the bidding process, but many of those same people aim to drop those day trips asap. Open Time is continously littered with them. It is not far fetched at all to swap/drop/add and build a schedule with a bunch of locals. Are you going to do all day trips as a brand new guy? Of course not. But you won't get that anywhere.

also a lot of guys not flying much on reserve, if you want to maximize time at home. When you DO fly it sucks (redeyes), but you arent flying a ton on reserve

Could someone on reserve pick up trips in open time (hopefully not a redeye) and rack up hours so the company will call the guy with fewer hours for the month first? Does the LAX base even have much flying in open time that’s not gnarly redeyes?

On Long Call Reserve you could do this in theory. Have a flight scheduled so that your credit for the month is higher in the first few weeks, so that they call someone else first. Also on Long Call reserve, you might be better off preferential bidding a trip so that they assign you a non redeye if you see 1.

VDA/RSA/Premium trips, but other than that, if you pick up trips on open time as a rsv, you are flying for free. To be fair, not every trip in open time is a redeye. Its just that as a lineholder and being JR, you can bet that you will have them.

Open time is a mixed bag. Mostly filled with redeyes, but there is variety. If the spirit acquisition goes through, LAX will grow for JetBlue, but until that happens, its not fair for me to say that things will be great. JetBlue has wanted to open a vegas base recently though, so they ARE trying to increase their presence out west.

Hawaii is pretty much a done deal. Likely scenario is initially out of LAX and then SFO. Would be done with regular NEOs not LRs or XLRs.

More flying to return to FLL and a little more to MCO. When we decided to make the summer cuts, those were the only two places we could do it. JFK is slot restricted; expecting BOS to be soon. Management really wants to grow LAX so that was off the table especially in lieu of future Hawaiian plans.

Airbus has approached us about the 330s. Preliminary discussions but nothing serious. At best that would be 5-10 years down the road.

Hopefully some of you guys want LAS after the merger.

This message is too short so adding text.
