Yes, I’ve been around long enough to have met and flown with people from Comair, so I’m aware of risks, course no airline is a sure bet). My regional is I think best positioned to move into the future but who knows?

I have a LOT of seniority at my regional, and the transition is going to turn my life upside down for some time, commuting, reserve and so on.

No flow, but I probably will have a GPI invite at United within 6 months, so that’s on my mind. Sure, going to JetBlue might make me more competitive for United, but I’m not sure I’m up for the whiplash if starting at one carrier and then going to another.

Someone said something to the effect of “you can hustle and make 200k as a 2nd year FO. Well sure, but if I want to pick up stuff for 200% I can do that here as well. Honestly, one of the hardest decisions I’ve had to make, nearing a conclusion.

And I’d like ti thank the people who offered constructive advice and I’ll ignore the garbage which was not unexpected.

first off- do what’s best for you.

my point was you can make 200k as a 2nd year FO and, more importantly, have more than 12 days off.

maybe you are just happy staying where you are? Nothing wrong with that. But the majority of folks on this board wouldn’t be caught dead at a regional long term. IMHO- look for an exit strategy and go with it.

You may have caught a lot less crap if you asked “Should I go to JetBlue now, or keep trying to go to United in maybe 6 months?” rather than asking “Should I go to JetBlue or stay at my regional?”

The biggest X factor is how long until you retire? Under 5 years it might be worth staying at a regional if it’s Skywest or Republic. Over 10 or at a small regional? Definitely worth going somewhere else. The Covid aftermath saw 20+ pilots from Expressjet on the street and starting over at the bottom other regionals lists. 3 regionals shut down, and at least one more was almost shut down (Piedmont). If you’ve got a pathway to United in six months it may be worth executing on that, but if you left for JetBlue and updated your United application the effect would likely be the same. If you don’t get to United, where are you better off in 5+ years? JetBlue can be a and has been a career destination for many.

Best piece of advice I was given was "go where the name on the paycheck matches the name on the side of the airplane."

That being said, if United is really where you want to go...double training is no fun, might as well wait, and of course driving to work beats commuting everytime.

So don’t move on to better things in your career to avoid the inconvenience of going to training again? That’s interesting advice. What’s he going to do when he gets to United and realizes there’s probably five different type ratings on property there?

He said his GPI is coming up in 6 months. If he wants to go United why would he go through B6 training just to go through United training a few months later. Doesn't make much sense.

What is he going to do when his regional either closes its doors or consolidates with another, and he has to go through training again, despite his attempt to avoid it?

Guaranteed pilot interview I’m guessing that means? It makes sense because he hasn’t been hired at United, he “probably” has an interview coming up in 6 months if that’s indeed what a GPI is. He could always….you know….not get the job.

GPI = OO. He's probably not worried about the doors closing.

How many customers does your regional have?

How many customers does JetBlue / Spirit have?

While no guarantee, there's a whole lot of safety in diversification of that number.
