Kids these days don’t even remember way back in 2020 when several airlines were furloughing or talking about it… Plus, how many regionals shut down in the first year of COVID?

I’m a 7 year captain at regional. With a wife, a kid and a mortgage….I can’t afford to live off of 2000 a month.

If you can’t afford 2,000 a month for 45 days to then make more on the backside, you’re doing it wrong. Not saying you should necessarily go to B6, I wouldn’t right now frankly, but your finances should allow for a 45 day period making $2,000 if that’s the cost of a career move that allows for much larger compensation, retirement, and benefits. Also need that kind of cushion in place in case you end up furloughed, which is always in play at regionals. Just my $.02.

Yeah good grief. Imagine living paycheck to paycheck as an airline captain.

If you can't afford 1 month at 2 grand with free food, you suck at finances and life-planning. Period.

He has been a captain at a regional with hiring as it has been for the last two years, I would wager financial smarts aren't the only thing he is lacking....

Not trying to throw shade, but suck it up. It’s ONLY 45 days out of your career. Y’all have it so easy, stop complaining.

Or JB could catch up with the industry.

JetBlue should offer commensurate pay and benefits, even to new hires, nobody is arguing that. But this woe is me, oh my poor bank account nonsense is bizarre. It's literally a single month of reduced pay, then you're on an 80 hour guarantee for a month doing OE... then you're easily clearing 6 figures and pouring cash into your 401K for the rest of your career. Ahem, if we stay in business, ahem...

I couldn’t afford 3 grand to buy my ATP back when JetBlue required it. I applied anyway. When I finally got my ATP 6 years later, JetBlue hired me fairly quickly. Of course I lost over 1000 numbers seniority-wise; it probably cost me 5 years of Captain pay, plus two regionals collapsed under me in the meantime.

Now, if I need three grand, I pick up a 2-day trip on my days off. So looking back, I should have done just about anything to scrape together that three grand for the ATP to get out of the regionals. Live and learn.

Anyone who spends *one minute* longer than they need to at a regional has extremely suspect judgement, in my opinion. Being comfortable is absolutely your enemy when you're at a fee-for-departure company.
