Although you asked for guidance from those with experience, at 44 yrs of age and no flight experience..., I believe that wisdom and understanding are what you are looking for in your responses. You are blessed. Go with SWA; if one person agrees--take a look at it. If two suggest the same thing...it's confirmation. If three persons or more say the same thing....it's a foregone conclusion.

Thumbs up

I am very blessed! I am not a greedy person. I have a family to take care of and have been gainful employed with the airlines for almost ten years so far. I want to further my career and give my family everything they deserve. I have gained and learned so much durring my pursuit. Taking a hard look at myself and my career has educated and given me a new and positive outlook. I look forward to the months to come and the exciting new experiences ahead. I feel very lucky to love my job. Whatever happens with the interviews...well I feel humble and thankful no matter what.

I think a lot about the man who complained about not having shoes. He complained until he saw a man with no feet.

God Bless and thanks for all the helpful info.

The investment people always include the "prior performance is no GUARANTEE of future performance" phrase as a way to cover their behinds, but prior performance is a DARNED good predictor of future performance. From that perspective, SWAK is the clear winner for someone who wants the sure thing. JetBlue doesn't have the history, but they are obviously the real deal, and with youth comes uncertainty. You can upgrade more quickly at Blue and possibly gain AOL quicker because of the likely upward movement.

For me, I can't afford to work as a KB new hire Embraer FO. I could only make a job switch if I could go into a setting where first year money is good, and SWAY offers that, at least that's what I hear. Dittos to CAL, great company but the first year pay stinks.

Good Luck,
Dude!

Can you tell me what the first year pay is? LUV vs JBU. Do you have a clue what you are talking about. I think not!

amen... turn your 401k into a real estate 401k and watch the magic! 200k increase last year. there are many other options for it as well. my advice is to get an estate planner.

Vito,
Didn't it take SW about 25 years to get there. They didn't start out paying industry leading wages. Give us time. We will get there!

I agree there is higher risk at JB, where is the higher reward? I admit I'm unsure of the benefits at WN, although they do have profit sharing and match 401k at more than double the JB rate.
A 6 year Capt at WN will make about 50K a year more than a 6 year JB Capt, flying the same number of hours.
A 5 year f/o at WN will make more than a reserve Capt at JB, no matter how long the JB Capt has been there.
This is considering the A320 only. The 190 is left in the gate from the start.
WN also has twice as many bases, giving a better chance of a shorter commute.
To be fair to JB, sometimes we get "snow globes".

Let's not overlook one very important point. Southwest Pilots have Union representation (although an independent one). They also have a legal Collective bargained agreement. Never forget or underestimate the importance of both.

In my opinion JB pilots will be unionized eventually and someday they too will have a CBA. In the meantime..........My 2 cents worth says......."Go with the first class date offered, but if you are lucky enough to get 2 offers..........my money is on Southwest."

Good Luck

We will have a Union.
