Question for JetBlue guys
Is there really such thing as a "BlueDart" ????
Apparently, this is something that every pilot at JetBlue gets, just once, and it allows them to give it to an outside pilot. This BlueDart gives a guaranteed interview to anyone meeting the minimums at JetBlue. True? False? |
True, but not every JB pilot gets one. They were randomly distributed and can be used once. A guy I went to school with got one and it helped me get an interview when I met the minimums and applied.
|
Dude,
You write like a guy that went to auburn.:) |
I know a person who was hired there with (maybe) the help of this supposed Blue Dart from a Captain.

As previously stated, the dart is given randomly to a current JB pilot. Once that pilot uses his/her blue dart on a prospective pilot then it is gone forever. No more chances at getting a dart. Basically it is a once in a lifetime guaranteed interview for someone whom you believe would do well at JB. I've been at JB over 6 years and have never gotten one. Conversely, I've met a JB pilot who got one with less than a year on property. GP |
Guppy, why haven't you gotten one? I would think that being there that long, you would get one? Every JetBlue pilot signs a 5 year deal, correct? I'm surprised you didn't get one the second time you signed up. Musta slipped through the cracks? :P

There is no reason other than the computer hasn't randomly picked me that I don't have a blue dart to give out. GP |
Guppy, if you do get one, can I get dibs on it? You can get to know me, on my dime we can take a lunch and a flight up in a Cessna or something. :D

If successful in the interview process and not ever accepting a class date (as soon as one is offered) does that burn your Blue Dart donor? |
How much a Blue Dart can costs? Lol
|
Most guys don’t have one anymore I’d guess.
|
I helped several people get on... I didn't have blue darts but I wrote letters for several people..
Then one friend postponed the interview a couple of times, and then canceled on the last one. His circumstances changed and he was no longer able to take the 60,000 dollar pay cut that was year one. Now, apparently my recommendations are not good. Everyone since has been turned down after the interview even after being prepped for the interview. |

Do you guys still have people asking for help getting hired here? All my friends stopped asking around 3 years ago, even the ones at Kalitta, Atlas, Envoy...

I'm honest about what I experience. One doesn't lie to friends. There's good and bad, and it's not a great fit for everyone. But for others, it's a perfect fit. I know FOs in their early thirties who don't have apps out anywhere else because they are that happy here.

Perhaps you should get involved and help ensure that the next one we are handed is not a turd? Or would you prefer to complain here about it?

I think if things were a little more balanced it would have more impact here. I’m not saying stuff isn’t wrong but when the same people say the same things over and over on both sides people just tune out(I’m guilty). It’s like watching msnbc.....trump sucks all the time or fox....trump is god. So I’m not sure how much impact this site has. I was just down at Osc for a month and the new hires were some darn sharp guys, heck my sim partner had been trying to get here for a few years, because of where he lives and what he wants. We each have our own path and I never understand why people are always telling people to leave or don’t come here or stay. To each their own, and if you plan to stay plan to fight to make things better.

I literally haven't had a past coworker or friend ask me in 5-7 years. |

Judging by the majority of your posts, I'd wager that you don't have too many friends. At least not that want to work with you.

What a weird, and polarized group we have posting here. A few things that I think are really important to keep in mind........
-Jetblue is Jetblue. We make less than Delta, United, AA and Southwest. They have better benefits, better non-rev networks, and better management. Period. Don't come here and get ****ed that we aren't the big 4. Seriously, we aren't the big 4 and never will be. We will continue to fight for higher wages, but don't come here and get ****ed we aren't Delta. Go to Delta and don't get upset. -I really like it here. I don't want to leave. I don't complain much on this website, because its my choice. If I was really unhappy I'd simply just leave. I wish more pilots on this website had the same view. -If you live in Boston, this place is a great deal. If you live in Clt, ORD, ATL, MCO or the west Coast you can do better. We would love to have all good guys/gals, but honestly, you would likely be happier elsewhere. -If you want to get hired at the big 4 and are having trouble, come here. Blue isn't a bad place to hang out waiting for a call. Just don't get ****ed at being here while you wait for a call. Seems silly, to have to say it, but I believe it needs to be said-- look at where each airline you are applying to is today. Make your job selection based on that. DO NOT COME HERE and expect to be a 777 FO someday. Managing expectations is huge. Remember. You are in charge of you life and career. Life is way to short to be unhappy. Frankly, this job isn't worth working somewhere you aren't happy. Good luck. |

There's no reason JB pilots shouldn't have the pay and benefits of those carriers, other than the apathy of people like you. They shouldn't settle for poor management either. They shouldn't settle for being treated so poorly day to day. For having the highest pilot termination rate in the industry (by a large margin). For staying in dumpy hotels and in horrible locations. The list goes on and on. These are the real issues. No one goes to JB expecting to be a widebody pilot. JB obviously isn't the worst place ever, but mindsets like yours enable the airline to continue making it a worse place to work than it should be. "Just happy to be here!" |

But, nothing I--or you-- can do will make it Delta. We can fight for better pay and benefits (as we should) but they will always have a better non-rev options (since its a bigger airline.) Also, we cannot control who is in the C-suites. That's not our role. Why stay here when it makes you so unhappy? Clearly you are a smart dude and although I doubt we have flown together, I'm sure you are good at what you do. This job isn't worth being unhappy. Its honestly not. My life circumstances are likely very different from yours. I work 70hrs a month and try not to work anymore. Its not worth the drama. Maybe you would be happier at a major airline? Easier commute, better pay and benefits? Not trying to be a dick, but you need to know and understand what motivates you and makes you happy. Edit- Came off sort of dickish. I'm sorry about that. But I think there needs to be a middle ground. Not all of us hate it here. And because I don't hate it, doesn't mean I don't want it to be better. I want jetblue to be awsome-- and it has a way to go. |

You don't have to be unhappy to point out the areas where vast improvements need to be made. JB has many of those. Pretending that isn't the case, or taking any criticism of JB personally, isn't healthy for anyone or healthy for this career. Cheers. |

I never understood those who place themselves below these airlines so I'd love to get a little insight into your (and many like you) thinking. |

I want jetblue to be awsome-- and it has a way to go. Like you, I am happy here at JB. Would I like to see a higher pay rate? Better PS? Less meltdowns when the wind blows? Well of course I would. And they are goals we should strive for always. Our contract is not industry-leading (as some allude it should be). It's also only a whopping nine months old. As to the post above asking why people are willing to accept less... why did you apply here, knowing you would get less? Do you think Progressive employees get paid the same and treated like Lloyd's of London employees? I knew what JB was when I applied. And i never applied to DL because i don't want to work there. I have no desire to leave, and will do what I can to make improvements for our group. So while I cant help but compare what we have to what they have in the hope that we can do better, I am in no way bitter about the progress their pilot group has made over the decades. Let's all pull together to make similar progress. |
