Until there is a formal request/policy/ban from the MEC, I will pick up any open time I want, if I feel or want to work a little extra in a month. However, If there ever is a formal open time ban from the union, to achieve a goal (contract, etc), I will gladly follow the ban.

I want none of it. They only thing I have picked up in 19 years is working commuting legs. I haven't seen pay rates high enough to interrupt my free time.

If you ever want this company staffed appropriately and a vacation in the summer or over the holidays, then stop picking up open time. Let it go to the reserves and when they run out of reserves they will get the clue they need more pilots. Well unless you are in the top 10% and then like always in this career, it's F U I got mine.

It's illegal for the MEC to do what you ask. Not ever going to happen as much as it should.

I was referencing Captains that make 200k+ a year and need to pick up any and all RSA's, RTF's, etc rather than commute home (as others have pointed out was the topic of discussion... not open time) because "If I don't make X hours I can't pay the bills." I hear it all the time from guys in the left seat (and I'd assume the right).

Sorry I wasn't very clear and sorry you have financial trouble. But I was there first year and made ends meet just like you will.

To make a point to management that they need to hire more?

I don't think the people picking up the 5-20 trips in open time every month are the real problem. And I don't think you can expect anyone on first year pay to just sit there and watch their bank account empty ... I'd question anyone on first year pay if they weren't trying to get 100's a month.

Just a month ago the captain I flew with complained about the 40k in taxes they had to pay

"Some people don't even make that in a year....."

Right on.... I'll eat my PBJ now... I know what I got into. And I'm picking up trips... Sorry.

You missed the point. It's not about picking up open time it's about working for free.

and as far as paying taxes... most people don't do the job we do either. I'd like to keep more of the money I earned too.

Does anyone have an educated opinion on the possible C series purchase? Are they serious, and is it more profitable to operate a 100 seat RJ versus a wide body? I don't claim to be the brightest bulb, but this airplane would make no sense for B6 at this time, imho.

My guess is it's a negotiation tactic for getting better rates on planes that fit our model. I never knew we were even in talks last year.

I think there is a very high probability of us getting the CSeries as an E190 replacement.

The E190 has had much higher maintenance costs than anticipated, in particular the heavy checks cost as much as the A320. The CSeries shares the same motor (main section, just a different fan out front) as the A320neo. I'm willing to bet we already have an agreement for heavy maintenance for our future Airbus NEOs and could easily add on some CSeries at favorable terms.

The CS100/CS300 would slot nicely below our 162seat A320s. It is a very efficient aircraft on par with the Airbus NEO, except a smaller size. Additionally, I think it is very possible that BBD could one day produce a CS500, which would wind up replacing our A320 Classic airframes. I don't think Jetblue will ever take delivery of another A320/A320NEO airframe. The future is the A321/A321Neo/A321LR.

But, don't listen to me. Im just another Armchair CEO!

Chalk me up as it's a negotiating tactic to keep Embraer and Airbus honest.

MX costs WERE high on the e190.... Now you tell me we're dumping them now that we have them figured out? Would old clapped out 319s do the job?

Perhaps they put the order in now for 2020 and beyond deliveries.....

Jury Duty Q:

I got tagged for Jury duty in July. I plan on bidding reserve in July, and wanted to maximize time off by sitting reserve that day and getting day removed post bid per FSM.

Q: Does this work? FSM states that days known prior to monthly award will be covered at 4:00/day (basically rsv pay anyways). I plan on sending dates once July award is posted and then getting blocked off w/pay guarantee.

Is this scummy/frowned upon? I just don't want to get stuck sitting jury duty all day on a day off.

Just an observation......

Might not be a good idea to come on a public forum and ask for help committing fraud against your employer. Won't look good come carpet dance time. You stated you know the days (now) but are not going to convey those to the company in a timely manner. You are setting yourself up to fail.

Either read between the lines yourself (FSM) or ask the guy sitting next to you. Don't publicize it. I'm trying to help you (or anybody else that thinks doing something similar is a good idea), not the company.

Looking back at my post I suppose I wrote it wrong. Obviously not hiding anything from company as I would have to submit the dated summons per FSM. Meant to state, ' can I use PTO on reserve day for jury duty as I don't want to sit jury duty on a day off', and obviously I can. Not trying to commit fraud etc..

Thanks

--- Edit: Called and you just submit summons and they block the day. Probably should have just done that in the first place.. I feel myself becoming reliant on the internet, scary.
