$130k is an average at best income if you live in any of the 3 out of the 5 bases where home prices are $500k+ or rent over $2000 a month. First year pay is poverty in these bases. Yes, it's probably amazing if you live in middle of nowhere Indiana where you can live like a king, but some people refuse to put themselves through the torture of commuting.

Just for comparison: 2 year plus one month guy, W2 showing 109K as of last pay (includes profit sharing of course), commuter, try for 82 hr average month, average 14 days off. Redeye bump was about 5K.

I have no doubt that if you live in any of our bases you can have a pretty good QOL here. I'm a 15+ month guy on property and can't even hold a friggin' line or even a hybrid/move-up in our most junior Bus base  They keep jacking up the number of reserves and we run new-hire classes with 5 people... Regardless, I guess I'll enjoy my weekends off for now and my few "extra" days at home I get on LCR if it happens, because looking at the junior line awards it makes me want to throw up... but hey, I guess I won't have to be tied to my phone anymore and have scheduling rule my life and check the stupid DRO every day at noon... when it's actually published on-time.

I rarely check the DRO anymore, unless I need to check if I'm the prime target for an open trip, otherwise JEtcrw app is quicker.

Ah, $50/year is really bad isn't it. Out of touch
Read the thread buddy. At my last airline it changed from free to $50 per rider, up to a max of $250. That may no longer be true, but it was when I was there. |

I did pay it. I thought it was ridiculous to pay for a seat that should be for free given that it's going to be empty if a non-rev doesn't sit there. I'm fine with paying a fee for business class (United). But for Delta regionals we had to pay the fee even to just jumpseat due to how the system worked. Anywho, you guys are missing the point entirely. My point was that some carriers charge fees (Delta), some require cleaning (JetBlue). Personally, I prefer to straighten a few seat belts as a courtesy to the crew that carried me rather than pay the corporation any money for flying in a seat that would be empty anyway. But that's just me. |

For the most part I am in the same boat. The one delusion that's keeping me going here is the fact that I am accruing seniority at a company flying mainly Airbus equipment, therefore making it a quassi "major." Moreover, it is now ALPA, which is the country club of choice for several established "majors." So, my hope is that we will be merged with or bought by one of the others. Then, at least I will retain some of my accrued seniority when the lists merge, vs starting over from the bottom. (Unless we're stapled, but I don't think that is allowed anymore.) Seeing that we strive to be a thorn in the side of the legacies, I could see one of them saying enough is enough, and just taking us outright.
