Any Kalitta guys live outside of the country or does your home base have to be in the lower 48?

Quite a few. Your base has to be lower 48, Anchorage, or Hono. The company is pretty good about working with those folks. I know some can get scheduling to finish them somewhere in the world that makes sense so then they can alternate travel to home. The toughest one I’ve heard of is a guy living in a scandinavian country and he has to buy himself a ticket to JFK (no american companies fly the route so no jumpseats). The DO just recently expressed some interest in pursuing overseas possibilities. No promises though.

Well that is good to hear, I've got an interview coming up at the end of the month and I am curious how up front I should be about this. Id hate to hurt my chances because the schedule here still works much better compared to what I have currently. I am hoping to live in Germany and commute from there, does the company care if I choose not to go to my official US domicile?

You're absolutely right. For a pilot to collect the six hours, it's 1959z AND 2359z. For the company to reject the six hours when requested, it's 1959z OR 2359z. That was the source of my misstatement.

It’s been an “AND” logic for years. I have heard plenty of gripes about payroll striking it out from pilots that don’t understand the contract. It’s right there.

Also, there are plenty of happy pilots here, but the complainers are so loud that they steal all the oxygen. Unfortunately the haters aren’t all leaving. goinaround you’ve given some good info in this thread, have a good one.

I’ve always understood it just the way it’s written. Dyslexia got the better of me. Agree with the rest.

Glad to hear that quality has improved so dramatically, there's a ton of negativity about K4 on the forums right now so at least some of y'all are still positive about it. I had a big decision to make at the end of the month and potentially working at K4 is one of them.
There are things to be positive about... there are also a lot of things to be concerned about... more than the positive things.

The company doesn't care where you go and what you do on your off days. Because international basing isn't (yet) contractual, don't expect the company to accommodate getting you to/from work if you're abroad. They'd only be doing you a favor every once in a while.

that leaves a couple options: join the union or management to try to make things better, vote with your feet and leave, or suck it up. Complaining on here doesn’t get you very far

Or... show people who are thinking about coming to work at Kalitta that there are real issues that might be of a concern to them, because you care about the airline and want it to succeed.
