Default Wondering what's next......?

So, I was laid off for the second time in only a few months yesterday, and both jobs were in aviation. One was an airline and my latest job was in 135. I'm not down on myself nor mad because thankfully I'm familiar and aware of the state of things right now economics-wise. The thing is, I live in the Houston area, just got a new place and tied into a lease contract so breaking that really isn't an option since these days it seems credit is so important to maintain. I really don't want to leave the industry for any amount of time, but if it's a "gotta do what I gotta do" moment then so be it. Any suggestions, or any knowledge of the industry around the Houston area that is hiring that I won't find on Careerbuiler or Monster would be much appreciated. Unfortunately, many of the business cards I have acquired from various companies are now laying off aswell so that went out the window. Thanks in advance guys! Hope everything is going well for everyone on here as well.

Hey, a fellow Houstonian here as well. Well actually I’m in Sugar Land but that’s close enough. Wish I had an answer for you but it seems that everything is really tight everywhere. Were you looking into something still in aviation or aviation related or is it whatever that’s out there?

Hang in there and good luck. It’ll all turn around eventually. By the way, which 135 where you working with in the Houston area? I live right next to the Sugar Land airport, right off of hwy 6 and hwy 90. Maybe you could contact them and see if anything is available in there?

Default Dig Deep

Dig deep. Put on your best suit, load up an armload of resumes' and hit the street. Go door to door to every aviation company within driving distance from your home. Walk in and lay a resume on the desk of anyone you can. Keep doing this every two weeks.

Eventually you might have to consider taking a non-flying job in aviation. Dress down to business casual and hit the same route, however this time ask for line or administration jobs.

Keep doing this until you get a job, they take out a restraining order or you quit trying.

I really appreciate the replies guys. I was with American Jet International out of HOU in the Million Air FBO. A few of us were laid off yesterday, and given the size of the operation a few for that size company would be comparable to a lot for a big 121 carrier. I really want to stay in the industry and continue building my resume, HOWEVER, I'm not so hard-headed to the point where I refuse nothing else and will gladly eat steamed socks and pieces of rubber tire until things pick back up. I just put a profile on Linkedin so hopefully that helps a bit, and I will heed the advice and go to every functional aviation operation and drop the old resume off. Wish me luck, as I wish all the others well that are in the same boat....
