Check how many are in the Medical or IT field.
I had a young Sailor checking out of the squadron the other day and I asked him if he was transferring or getting out. He said that he had decided to leave the Navy. I asked what his plans were for the future. He said that he was going into Nursing.
I told him "thank you for your service" and the best of luck in your new career. Sounds like he made a smart choice.

I can totally relate to the young sailor USMCFLYR. After finishing undergrad with quite a few hours from flight instructing, I (luckily) decided not to apply to the regionals who were currently hiring, as things were already looking bleak. So I made the decision to get a second bachelor in nursing. I’m currently set to graduate next August.
I haven’t tasted the cockpit in a while and miss the heck out of it. Sure security and stability are important, but I would seriously caution doing something strictly for the money. Especially in the medical field; the material and study time required can be very arduous and taxing. I really have no idea how some of my classmates with kids are doing it, much props to them. If you’re not doing it for the right reasons (whatever that may be for you) you will quickly dread what you are doing.
