Default Teacher

I am seriously considering leaving aviation to go back to grad school and become a history teacher. I am 26, have accomplished most of my professional goals already (Captain/Manager of Part 91 Turbo Prop), and i'm realizing my wants and needs are changing. I am doing a dream job right now for good pay, and very little work, and I don't think i'd be happy with any other flying job when this one eventually ends. I've been thinking about the advice most older corporate pilots i've met have given me (get out now while your young enough for something new), and I think the time is now, and it will only be harder the longer I wait.

I've been putting a lot of thought into the joys of flight, and i've realized that for me, it's not so much the physical manipulation of the controls and the views out the window, but the respect, authority and responsibility of the job that I enjoy. I think that can be found elsewhere.

Anyhow, I still have a lot of soul searching to do, but i'm looking to see if anyone else on here has left aviation to become a teacher?

Thx

a good teacher is like a candle that consumes itself lighting the path for others

We recently hired a SPED teacher at one of the elementary schools in my town, $110K. It's not a bad gig, work half the year, Summers off, good benefits.

I really believe that if done correctly and with a certain passion, a teacher has the opportunity to really impact lives. If I were to do this, I don't want to do it to teach history. I'd want to teach life, and provide guidance. Be a positive influence in a kids life, and someone that can motivate. Someone that kids will look back on and say, I pursued my dream because "GrummanCT" showed me it was possible.

I'm really excited. On my way up to my University to speak with an advisor!

My wife is actually a teacher and she loves it. It is usually the one or two students that are really passionate about being in class that make teaching worth it, according to her. Plus the summers off.

My History teachers always seemed to be the more inspirational ones.... English the least.
