So true. Just for fun you should search for one of the forums where law school graduates complain about that career. It echos this thread/section almost to a tee! I don't think it's aviation in general, but more likely the fact that people think they can pay a huge amount of money and be guaranteed a sucessful career as a result. THAT is bound to lead to disappointment for lots of folks.

BTW, I stumbled across that law school forum when I was watching one of those Xtranormal videos about flying. Much to my surprise they had similar videos about other professions . The forum links were on the pages with videos.
LORD! I don't need to search forums for that griping
I hear it first hand day in and day out!
You are absolutely right about many of the same problems being associated with many career fields and expectation that have been skewed over time.
I've also heard that these forums attract a certain type of individual too and those are more likely to complain and be dissatisfied.
I've spent many years around my peers who are in all facets of aviation (mostly airlines) and I've never seen the level of dissatisfaction with the job in general until I came of this forum (it is the only one that I frequent).

I think this job is pretty easy. That's coming from someone who used to break rocks in a salt mine. Could I be paid more? Sure.

As a law school grad who jumped the fence and went into a different career, I see humor in the above posts about forums with people moaning about things. My current career has its share of moaning as well, I thought about pursuing a career in professional aviation many years ago, but my father, a Naval Aviator from 1941 to 1953, told me, avoid aviation as an avocation, you will never make a dime, I took his advice, and just complain about the weather on days I want to go fishing.

Do not expect from aviation something it never promised you, and for which there was plenty of warning was not going to exist, prior to your asking to join that club.

This industry is full of broken dreams and unmet/unrealistic expectations...

While I largely agree with that sentiment, you also have to allow for the fact that the entire landscape of this industry has changed dramatically in the last 20 years. A lot of people (self included) signed on for a vastly different program than what exists now, and the warning signs were just beginning to emerge when I entered the industry. I have much less empathy for those who've decided to jump in in the last ten years or so.

Another AWARD winner. Great post, and thanks for posting.

5 stars, two thumbs up, tailwinds both ways, and yes, you can have another.
