I have been using that but there is also an expedited hiring process where you can now have the option to send a resume directly to [email protected]. Due to that I have been contomplating creating my own resume still that mirrors that resume builder or just using that program and saving that to send directly.

Use the resume builder on USAJobs, then scan to be placed in your package would be my advice.

I’m evaluating whether or not to go to the FAA. I’ve been interested in an ASI position for a long time prior to this whole pandemic. I was curious about moving to the aircraft evaluation group after some time if that’s a possibility. Anyone have any idea what type of experiences the FAA looks for for that type of position?

Broad question.

Getting in the FAA as an Inspector is the first hurdle. Best plan on spending a few years in a CMO/FSDO/CMU/CMT.

On occasion, the AEG post openings. As one can imagine, a lot of applicants for few positions. If the AEG is your goal, it's best early on to start networking with them.

And AEG is primarily a desk job. Some people get the wrong idea of what the job entails. Best to find someone working in the AEG and have them explain the day to day life.

Solid advice. I appreciate it. I considered calling one of the managers today. I figured it’s a competitive position due to it entailing some flying. I imagine it’s about as tough as an ASIP position, yeah? Staying as an ASI wouldn’t be so bad either, though. Just trying to see if I want to dip to the FAA early since a captain position at my regional is probably a couple years away now due to this pandemic.

It’s all about quality of life. It’s not a flying job (asi), although the AEG jobs keep you current in a couple of aircraft (so I hear). I’ve been interested in one but it’s up to 75% travel, so just depends what you want to do.

You won’t have furloughs (at least you’ll be paid if you are) but the most recent thing is a proposed 20% pay cut. Someone’s rationale, even though we’ve worked every day thru Covid, is that other people are suffering and we shouldn’t be paid our full salary. WTF

The 20% paycut : https://www.fedsmith.com/2020/05/20/...ral-employees/

I seriously doubt this group has the backing to get anywhere with this. Right now it's just grandstanding.

Also, in the FAA "keeping current" is not remaining "proficient".

Wouldn't do you much good to call an AEG manager from outside the agency as they don't hire direct.

To get hired as an Air Carrier ASI Ops, you will need a background as a check airman, APD and/or a Part 119 position. Without those you won't be competitive.

For GA Ops, you need all of your CFI ratings (SE/ME/Inst) current, and they look for experience as a 135 CA, DPE, 142, 141, etc.

Ah, see that I did not know. The ASI who told me about it said they did both GA and ACO for a carrier out east, since this particular carrier did both, but this ASI was in corporate flying, and not a captain as I understand flying business jets. They made it sound like I’d be fine but I didn’t even get to go to upgrade so it sounds like a pipe dream to go ACO. I don’t have a CFI so GA isn’t an option. Thanks for clarifying.

Go ahead and apply.Like anything else, you never know. You could put in for ACO, and may get selected for an interview.

One thing for sure, no one knows what HR will do on any given day.

You’re not wrong. I may very well do that. Thanks a lot for all the advice. Much appreciated.
