Whatever makes you happiest in the long run..... Money isn't everything. I made a boatload more $ when I owned several non-aviation related businesses but was not nearly as happy.

It should only be 7-10 days or so. The end of the month is coming quickly....No black cars. You will wind up having a face to face interview/background check with an investigator from the OPM. I didn't get mine until I was onboard for about 4 months.

You have got to be kidding me.

It's like the 1500 minimum. All you need to fly for Delta is 1500 and an ATP right according to FARs? Will it get you hired? Going to say nope, unless you married the chief pilot's daughter and he thinks you're a swell young guy.

Question, and i apologize in advance if someone has asked this!

Can you get an inspectors job without a 4 year degree. Lets say my cousin has 7 different types (boeing to shorts), currently flying and employed, MEII (current), past department manager, sim inst. and just all around nice frigin guy :D with about 20 grand in the hours department!

Just curious!

Cheers,

Cargo

Absolutely he can. Many in my original office had no college whatsoever.

Thanks.

Many mis-steps this week. Person who was to send me fingerprint cards was out, and no one else did it. I got some, had the local police department do them, but he only signed (he didn't put his info on them - not sure if they'll get kicked back).

Travel didn't come through, so flight check postponed a week. Guy arranging check tells me 'no problem' as they're doing checks up until the end of the month. Not sure how that jibes with getting hired before end of the fiscal year.

One last question - have a previously paid vacation scheduled for end of October. Assuming I start before end of September, I obviously won't have any time off coming. Any thoughts on getting an unpaid leave?

How quickly do you go to OKC? Ran into a couple of guys who have been there since May, but they're waiting to go to OKC in the new fiscal year.

Many mis-steps eh? Hmmmm, yes, you'll have that. The one thing you will HAVE to get used to is nothing in the govt happens quick or when you'd like it to. I tend to be a rather impatient person and well, lets just say that it took me awhile to just sit back and wait for something to happen. I'm sure it'll all come together prior to the end of the FY. They will need to make it happen w/o fail. Did they send you the flying profiles? I forgot, are you GA or AC?

The paid vacation question....I'm guessing you didn't bring it up to anyone whilst interviewing? I'm sorry, but I wouldn't be the best person to ask on this topic. Maybe Jamesnobrakes can shed some light?
When I got hired in Sept of 12, I was sent to OKC in February for 4 weeks and then a few weeks later for another 2.5 weeks. If your GA, I believe they have more initial classes compared to the AC folks, so your chances going sooner increase. You wanna go sooner than later, trust me.

Thanks, I'll be GA. They have not send the profiles yet. I think the week delay will be fine, but I was mentally prepped to get it done.

The vacation thing isn't a big deal, but I need to pay for a cruise this week.

JamesNoBrakes 09-07-2014 07:55 PM

The vacation thing you'd have to work out with your FLM and HR I'd think. I would not advise to delay your "on-board" date. Expect to get sent to OKC after about a month, could be a few if you show up later, but I've seen things spiral badly for a few people when things couldn't happen at their intended date. They try to plan out your schooling for the first year and some things you can't just go and "make up" easily if you miss them.
