Actually this would be good for airline pilots in about 8 years. Less pool of Commercial pilots willing to fly for pennies at the regionals...a rising tide raises all ships!

I seriously hope you're joking about this. How in the world will the US be able to keep up with the rising demand for air travel if there is a huge gap in the pilot pool? Current cabotage rules will be tossed out the window to make up for the lack of reliable US transportation, and the like of Virgin America and a number of other foreign competitors will be chomping at the bit to get into this market. You thought wages were bad now, wait 8 years.

Nope, not joking. Controlling the supply while the demand goes up is the way to raise your wages. Take a look at the Medical profession. They limit the number of qualified applicants to med school which keeps the output low, and wages up. I know, my smart daughter (solid MCAT scores; don't know who her father could be) has sent out one quadzillion med school apps.....no bites! Supply down, demand up...$$$

reddog25 is not wrong at all about the Supply and Demand thing but I don't think that taxing the hell out GA is a good idea either.
Geronimo4497- there is no shortage of pilots and I doubt there will be any in the near future - the market is flooded with pilots and that is why wages keep going down- hence the supply and demand thing. Also I will bet technology will keep increasing on airplanes and owners will realize that they can repalace experinced pilots with automation.
I don't like it either but technology seems to always replace human experience.

Good guess, as well as private pilot, and commercial...what's your point. My point is that with reduced pool of Comercial pilots available, then maybe those looking for jobs can get paid more than a guy who paints your house

How about the thousands that don't go to the majors and instead decide to fly 135? That would put those thousands on the streets and make the pool even deeper. Kinda like all those furloughs after 9/11.

If it puts their company out of business, they made a poor decision to fly 135 instead of 121. Bring on the fair taxes. Only on the turbine crowd though. Not the put put crowd.
