Will definitely heed that advice. Which naturally begs the question...what are the best high-mileage reliable commuter cars out there? I'm guessing the venerable Honda Accord would be #1. What about the Suburu outback? I love those cars but are they high-mileage reliable?
Consumer reports would have things like reliability ratings and mpg etc for prospective picks.

Otherwise, a Prius, as it gets about 45MPG.

I favor the civic for a variety of reasons. The civic just got a major makeover so used prices may be a bit more reasonable now. Don't over-buy a commuter car... It needs to be reliable and reasonably comfortable since you'll be practically living in the thing, but you're going to drive the wheels off it so get something you don't mind getting beat on.

The self-driving Tesla is my dream car. Once I pay off my wife's new wheels I may be able to afford a nice used one. My commute is 280 miles. Tesla says I need to stop at a super charger twice on my drive in, for about 10 minutes each time. Which is what I usually do for comfort anyway.
Can't wait to see how the Model 3 turns out.
