Default Hiring Age Cap?

Hi all. Newbie here. I tried using the search buttong, but had no luck. I'm 33 and starting my training. I have my private. I am going to do my training in a twin to get multi hours. I hope to get hired at a regional at 35. Am I too old to get on with a major? Thanks.

Nope, the majors are hiring guys well into their 50s. But I would think that you're too old to work for so little for the next 5-10 years.

Only for AMR. They have sucessfully argued in court that they only hire future captains. So, if they estimate you cannot make captain in the years you have left until retirement, they will tell you that you are too old.

Frontier has actually upgraded F/O's to Captain 1.5 years before they turned 60.

that's because they are a real company. although i am an advocate for the hitler youth(i.e. eagle), i have much disdain and a bit of contempt for the sky nazis. take that back, not the pilots, just the company.

Default Older Hires

A lot of the older guys get hired due to the good old boy network. As a 35 year old new hire all your peers will be 23. The odds are slim that any of them could reach a place of power to be able to hire you on to a major.

I don't know of you have a family but taking on a flying career at 35 is near certain financial death. You will be assured to be poor for a long time.

The way I see it you could be on with a "Major" what ever that will be in the next 5 years if you get in the game now. Look at the trouble the regionals are having hiring people. Flight schools are not exactly full, alot of the little FBO's have closed for flight training and the people that were in it for the money see it isn't here.

You will be able to make a fair buck in the future but don't plan on becoming a millionair. That's for management at these places anymore.

Age 65 will help you out as well, if you make it!

If this is what you want to do then go for it, but I would have to agree that the big money will be hard to find in a shorter career.
