Experienced this phenomenon for myself yesterday, westbound over southern Ohio. Worst I've ever heard, probably went on for 15 minutes or so. It honestly sounded like troll vs troll - with the usual music and animal noises and BS vs guys pretending to be the senior voice of reason just to keep the chaos going. Can't imagine what controllers must think hearing all this.
