I'm ready to be past tense.

Guess who didn't know the difference between 7500 and 7600?

That's one you might have wanted to confirm with the FO... "Squawk 7600 for lost comm please". New guy was having a bad day and needed some help, captain.

I guess CRM is not part of your airline’s operation.

It's amazing how people love to react and throw stones without bothering to read all the context...

Unless it was YOU who accidentally put in 7500 instead of 7600, then it’s pretty clear from your comments that you threw your “lame new FO” under the bus.

Did you mean to say YOU accidentally put in the wrong code? Is THAT the context that was missed?

Due the current operational ramifications (ie formation flight with fighters), IMO They should change the hijack code to something unambiguous that can't be confused with 7700 or 7600.

7575, 7555, 5555, 0911, something like that. Could phase it in over 5 years.

Here's the context I was referring to... Literally the next post, ONE MINUTE after the original.

Why not just call ops or the tower directly? What do you hope to accomplish by squawking 7600 on the ground? Quick, find the lost comms taxi procedure on your chart.

Squawking 0911 would be a really neat trick. Try it and see if you agree.

I think you're right that 7500 and 7600 are too easily confused. Hijack ought to be something else entirely. 7777 maybe. 7700 is a legacy of the 50s and 60s when ATC only had primary radar and the 77 (binary: 111 111) "double blossom" would make an emergency aircraft stand out on the scope. You'd think we could do better.

Was being facetious about 911. Wrote code in college.
