my prediction unfortunately

Based on

Consolidation
First Iraq war
Dot com disaster
9/11
SARS
Afghanistan war
Iraq war
Fuel crisis
Bank crisis

And this today is by far the worst, since from what I read 1974 fuel crisis, that may have been worst

Add in retirement and TODAY you could buy tickets every commute and come out ahead money wise by a lot over a career.

Now TOMORROW, that’s a different story all pax airlines are screwed right now.
Definitely a great point and definitely more than enough to buy your own tickets and overall even save some cash. The difference is you definitely have the ability to pick your perfect ticket and be more efficient per your schedule, but there is still mental stress associated with this because you are still responsible to be in place.

ACMI: Company will not hold you responsible for not being able to show up for work. With others you conveniently use your sick, etc to cover your butt - or am I wrong and you get a mulligan, I am not sure.
1.) Your chosen carrier Aircraft is hard broke for Maintenance, not your problem
2.) Weather delayed, not your problem.
3.) Flight cancellation, not your problem.
4.) Virus or any act of God, not your problem.
5.) Taking your time to find, select, buy ticket - Easy to be lazy I get it.
*If given $25K additionally for us to do this with no responsibility whatsoever, sounds great I am in. Crap, too senior too lazy forget it.

Overall, not my problem. My problem if any is in other areas: standard pay, soft pay areas perhaps, vaca and sick - some more cheddar wouldn’t hurt at all no doubt.

Good crews, Good Equip, Good Food (off the plane in some great locations/not always) some nice hotels and flying in pajamas with no flight deck door/FA’s that’s pretty OK.

Long haul is long haul, it’s not for everyone that is for sure but I always enjoy longer time off vs commuting more than once a month. And for many of us, while the changes are mind boggling sometimes, the inefficiencies garner me days off at some pretty awesome locations outside the U.S. (a few aren’t good).

Funny how I seem to be dodging a lot of these great places right now. This too shall pass!

Most guys here still think by July, a country with high unemployment and a virus still floating around, will be back to normal. Your assessment will probably be closer to reality. Except you forgot the couple of bankruptcies that will also happen.
