The US economy has come to a standstill
The US economy has come to a standstill, satellite imagery shows
Economists at the biggest U.S. banks are now expecting the country’s growth domestic product (GDP) to contract sharply in the second-quarter, but there are a wide range of outcomes as they struggle to make estimates from so little data. JP Morgan expects a 14% drop, Goldman expects a 24% drop and Morgan Stanley expects a 30% drop. |
Well......no kidding. The entire country has been told to lock yourself inside with no end date........
I’m sorry but I think it’s time to keep the older and more vulnerable inside and lets slowly get back to life please....... |

I’m sorry but I think it’s time to keep the older and more vulnerable inside and lets slowly get back to life please.......[/QUOTE You heartless SOB. You need to stop using reason and logic and feel a little more. Sarcasm obviously. This is exactly what's going to happen when the Bob's of the world stop getting a paycheck. Most people can't stay home forever and construction worker's, cabbies, restaurant workers, etc. can't work from home. My guess is within 2-3 weeks people say f it and start getting at it again. The difference between us and China is the government controls all the money anyway. So they have plenty to pay people to sit at home for longer periods. Or, they'll just print more. I've been wrong before....only time will tell. On a side note. 228,000,000 people got malaria this year. 420,000 died. 5684 teens ages 16-19 died in cars. Why aren't we raising the driving age? |

lol true. And I’m one of the fortunate ones who got the Rona and am making a solid recovery with nothing more than a loss in taste/smell so it’s easier for me to say “let’s get back to normal” .....Definitely keeping an eye out on family though. Seems to be no big deal for some and life ending for others........

Could be a new tinder selling point. “I’ve already had the Rona and I can’t taste or smell anything.

It’s not just old people getting extremely sick, they’re just the most likely to die. Once we run out of vents and/or people to run them, the death rate will go up dramatically

Either shut down the entire country and impose a mandatory quarantine enforced by law for a min of 2 weeks OR resume life like normal and let this virus take its course. The government is not doing anything productive towards stopping the spread, especially if flight crew (essential employees) are allowed to continue working unrestricted. Where the f$ck is the logic in this!?? Our economy is taking a lot more unrecoverable damage than needs to be.

But either way the airlines are needed, there are still some vital sectors which need to function, and some of that requires air travel. The DoD couldn't even begin to provide the mobility needed for gov and mil workers, to say nothing of other vital industries. Also pax airliners carry cargo. It might make sense for the fed to coordinate with airlines to minimize schedules to what's necessary, with no unneeded overlap. |

The country’s response seems so half done at this point. Like we can’t make up our mind if we want business as usual or to lock up and quarantine. The uncertainty is destroying our economy

I agree, we’re doing this half-heartedly like we can’t make a decision. I do think, though, that if we went about our business normally, the economy would start to shut itself down once the infection and death rate soared. Maybe, maybe not, who knows? I just fly plans for a few more months.

100% this. You either go all the way or you don't. What's the point otherwise. People say they are "self-isolating" here in Dallas but the parks are like NY subway, it's retarded.

This will be a never ending cycle if cities arent all shut down.... I guess the silver lining here is theoretically the Virus would burn itself out faster...... |
I know!, it ****es me off more than I can express. What is the difference between California and Texas or Colorado....none!. We either do this as a country, or it's going to unnecessarily last way longer and it's going to destroy the economy.
I've heard people saying "you can't take my freedom!", when they're told to stay at home for 2 weeks....for real!!?? |

It is admittedly much more difficult to do that in a small house with young kids. What if your parents told you as a kid you couldn’t go out and play with your friends indefinitely? Eventually the tension is going to build. I know why those people are at the park. I do. But they need to sack up and do the right thing. Period. I doesn’t help if only some of us are doing it. |

Open everything back up and watch that number grow exponentially. Do you honestly think any other country will let our planes land with a virus blowing up unabated in our borders? The economy ain’t coming back if you open everything back up, gents. And neither are our jobs. This will only stop being a major disruptor when a vaccine is developed.
I'm not sure the $2.2T stimulus is even going to make a dent in the economic damage being done. But opening everything back up is going to be very costly in lives lost. I'll put a link to the briefing below. It should start at 1:46 with Dr. Birx. Then the President mentions the lower end of expected deaths. Dr. Birx does mention they used multiple independent models. https://youtu.be/PlyZMGIntGY?t=6251 |

Monday morning is an ER Doc because that is where they are. List that factoid among the things that won't see on Fox News tomorrow. |

I'd like to come back to this thread in a month when hundreds of thousands are dead in America, and ask all the "get back to work" crowd if they thought it was worth it.

The economy would be in the crapper from all of the disruption and loss of life.
So we get the worst of both worlds. Lots of death and a ruined economy. Well done, gents. |
Scenario 1: “Reopen” the economy, virus runs rampant, hospitals are overrun, potential death toll 1-2 million, economy in the sh$tter.
Scenario 2: Social distance, listen to the experts, hospital capacity reduced, potential death toll in the low hundred thousands, economy in the sh$tter. Unfortunately due to the pathetically delayed response and lack of leadership on a federal level those are our two choices. The virus and the economy are inextricably tied at this point. |
We can literally end this if everyone stops what they’re doing and stays home for 2 weeks. It’s frustrating how half heartedly we are treating this. What is the point of prolonging it, bring out the military and just shut it down.

WE could literally stop this if the media would end the hysteria. If people were dying by the millions, this would be an issue? How many US deaths so far? And yes, Italy had a lot, but those were people average of 71 with multiple issues. God help us if we just have to deal with the flu next year.
