I’ve been wondering the same thing. Sure some airlines are advertising their cleaning methods and mask policy but where is A4A and similar, campaigning the very facts the article has listed.

I was wondering too.

Maybe afraid they'll lose credibility and face media and public backlash if there's a cluster of cases that come out of one single flight? Perhaps they are simply informing the media as to the facts and letting the media report on it? I have seen several articles, some more favorable than others, but at least they all seem to have the facts straight about cleaning, distancing measures, and air filtration... which is better than the default public perception.

It’s an interesting point that they possibly have made this information available to the media but it doesn’t sell as well as “Death from 7 miles up”.

If I ask family and friends if they are apprehensive of flying right now, they all say yes. If I asked them would they drive today if there was a 99.977% chance they wouldn’t get into a fender bender, they all say of course they would drive somewhere.

This unscientific poll tells me that if the airlines put 2% of the energy into educating the public as compared to the narrative that “Covid kills all”, that runs nightly on the media, more people would be open to flying.

I’m not saying Covid is a joke. No way, it’s serious. But people should not be crying when boarding an airplane, as if they were on a suicide mission.

I don't put a lot of faith in a lot of numbers coming out about Covid. This one's no different. No real science behind the number. It's based on a paper from a statistician. And anyone that's taken statistics should know that you can twist the numbers to produce any outcome you desire.

But more importantly, a large chunk of the public isn't going to hop on a plane while Covid is a threat, no matter how minimal one makes the risk sound.

I don’t think it’s the health risk that’s keeping pax away now because traffic was increasing steadily for awhile.

I think it’s the quarantine wars that are keeping folks away. Who wants to take a vacation and risk having to spend it in isolation, or turn two weeks off into four because you have to quarantine when you get home?

I think this is the real answer for now. My state requires anyone coming in from outside New England/NY to quarantine for 14 days. I've spoken to a few non-aviation friends who were planning trips that aren't because of the quarantine. My wife and I wanted to travel out to a national park in a few weeks but we decided to cancel because we'd need to quarantine when we arrive there, and then quarantine when we got back. So a total of 1 month of quarantining if you play by the rules just to go take a trip.

Combine that with near zero business or international travel and we're completely stuck it seems. Until restrictions are eased I don't see any sort of travel return coming.

This. Passengers will come back when they have places to go where they won't be virtual prisoners, where they can have meaningful interactions with others, and where they can go about their business without their personal risk management being micromanaged.

The airlines (and the unions) should be aggressively advocating a return to normal, but it's far easier (and safer) to beg mommy and daddy government for more sugar while continuing to tow the corona narrative, muzzle everyone on board, treat every arriving aircraft like a toxic waste cleanup site, and threaten employees at least twice a week with termination if they don't fall in line.

If anyone thinks lifting restrictions are going to fix this industry, read this (admittedly 3 month old) polling result: https://www.usnews.com/news/national...vel-poll-finds
