Is it also ok to Bluetooth music, watch movies, surf the internet, or text at 38k? Which FAR’s do we follow, which do we ignore, and who gets to decide? Anyway, you guys can do what you want out there, I just find it easier to follow the rules. I guess that makes me the bad guy then.

We're all big boy/girls and it isnt our first rodeo. I'm sure we all know when we need to be vigilant and when we can relax.
isnt it easier to just be cool then have an argument with everyone you fly with? Personally conflicts can be hazardous for flights as well.

Above FL180 I could care less what you do as long as it’s not inappropriate. If it keeps you awake…great. If you need a 20 min Power Nap…got it. I flew with ACP’s who watched Netflix. Don’t make easy hard….I’m not staring out the window for 6+ hrs.

Since you obviously know your manuals inside and out and can pull out the most obscure rules to establish the other guy has no leg to stand on, and you can’t watch Netflix or do anything up there that doesn’t violate the rules, what do you do for those long flights? And the FO doesn’t want to talk to you now anymore since you pulled down his shades.
Seriously though, it’s not like the 737 really does long legs and people should be able to put down their electronic devices for a 3 hour flight, even a transcon . I don’t have the manuals memorized, I just know them well enough to know when something isn’t right and where to find the answer, as should we all. As far as the sunshades go, my FOM uses the words “strictly prohibited”. When it comes to watching movies, texting, trip trading, etc during flight, the regs say that no person may use, nor may the PIC allow the use of personal electronic devices. It’s pretty cut and dry. If the other person is upset because I want to follow the FAR’s and ask that they do the same, then so be it.
