But my guess would be that there is some rule that you can't have anything obstructing your vision, in order to comply with see and avoid. Exceptions would only be the company/manufacturer provided, approved shades. If it isn't TSO'd you can't legally use it, my $0.02. Rosen is the only one I know, but even that would be a stretch to get for yourself.

Edit: guess i am late to the party.

Now if they would just make one small enough to fit in the sliding window. 🤬
Darned things were clearly made for the 767… or any other airplane with windscreens that weren’t based on the 707/727 prototype.
Little small for the 320. ..😎

I was shocked at the push back from a polite request to not block half the cockpit windows. He instantly got overly defensive and wanted to argue until I showed him in our FOM where he was in the wrong after telling him several times that it wasn’t a good idea and to please take them down. I don’t really like conflict, especially in the cockpit since it degrades safety. That is why I try to know the FM, FOM, and my contract. Knowing the book and simply making a honest effort to comply takes far less effort than deciding what parts are to be complied with, and which parts overlooked. As to your question about how far it can go, I guess having them removed from the trip and writing them up for willful noncompliance with the FOM would be the extreme, but I really can’t see any professional crew getting to that point.
thanks for the explanation. I asked because of what the AS crew did a while back. When they returned and one got off. I always wondered how it would get that far

Ever wonder what the extreme heat from the black kinder fluff does to the heating elements of the windshield. There has to be science behind hotspots and not so hot?

We (United) had a new hire get fired over a cell phone. He was told multiple times during sim training to turn it off but he couldn’t seem to put the thing down. I don’t get it. If a conversation topic or any action makes the other person uncomfortable, just stop. How things go further is beyond me.

Guess my employer shouldn’t have removed the OEM retractable sun screens if that’s something they’re worried about. 🤬

Necropost…

Anybody find anything better yet? Bought one of these Just Plane Shades.
Works good on the DV window. The trick is to stick it on the glare shield and let it get really warm for about 5 minutes, then once it’s soft it sticks to the window really well. Obviously better in summer than winter for that reason.

Still love the convenience of Kinder Fluff, but wish they made a smaller one that fit that window better,

I’ve tried several kinds and am happiest with the Kinder Fluff. They’re cheap at under $20 for a set of four which is good for when you inevitably lose them once every few years, plus they pack really small.

I can’t believe how many people I fly with that use absolutely nothing and just sit there in the blazing sun at cruise. Dumb.

I use the SWAPA shades. They’re free and you can get more for free when they break or you lose one.
