DEC means you will be on reserve forever as Senior FO's upgrade. Probably a good deal initially, but not at this point unless you don't mind commuting to 12 days off and no control of SC assignments, so expect all commuting on days off.
Used to be 15 days off on reserve unit November.
So much for this.

Oh how timing is everything in a seniority based system huh

This is why I came to Avelo. Even though I'm currently at the bottom I'm still going to be senior fairly quickly. I was only getting 12 days off previously, but now when I'm working I get to come home to my family.

We are a home every night airline, if you choose to commute that’s what you signed up for, that’s what I tell everyone.

Hi, I’ve been absent from this for many years and considering getting back into the airline game. I’ve got 23 years as a professional pilot but have flown corporate for the last 10. Needless to say I’m no longer a young hotshot with a wife and girlfriend on separate coasts. My kids are raised, my (only) wife is still with me and my cars are paid for. It’s obvious that this world has changed drastically since I left as there were no startups, DEC’S or committing stipends in my heyday. The DEC thing has peaked my interest both at Breeze and Avelo but I’m curious if I’d be the only gray haired captain on the property? Are most of you guys early/mid career? Just out of the regionals? Sounds like the daily grind is manageable at both but I’m curious what you all think?
is there actually a commuter stipend?
Is the 15~18 days off realistic?
How does holiday flying work?
Am I crazy to think that the DEC option is the best case for a guy to finish his career?
any positive advice is welcome.

Any update on what the hiring timeline is like? Any meet and greets coming up to get noticed. Just put in my application yesterday, 6000TT, all military flying everything from KC135 down to the caravan. Going for MCO. QOL is my driving factor for applying here, I dint need cash as much as my family needs my time. Home every night would be a dream job for me.

The fact Breeze is just being used as a “retirement” job for a lot of folks would be enough to tell me to look elsewhere. Unless there is a merger into another carrier I don’t see Breeze/Avelo being a stable career path. They are just a regional without the known branding of the majors behind it and if this supposed huge recession does hit, the dominos will fall fast.

If I had to do it again, I would have gone to a major. I am comfortable now sitting on the left seat with good seniority based in Burbank.
Not everyone will be as fortunate. Guys are leaving or have applications out. They are losing out on seniority at the majors.
The culture, QOL, and scheduling has been going down hill and I don’t see it getting better. They brought it new guys as Managers/Chief Pilot and it’s not the same company as before. They are losing money and they are trying to save where they can.
I would be careful to come here now. The music will stop and their will not be any chairs left.

300+ on the seniority list and roughly 30 aircraft. 1.5 years old. We are 80%+ full on every flight. Passengers love it. The place is growing. Any airline is a gamble, look at FedEx right now, and that was the prime place to be so we all thought.
How is Avelo doing though? I never hear one thing out of how it’s actually doing

Breeze is not mainly an early out gig for most. There are a handful of guys and girls that were cherry picked to be DEC’s on the A220, but the vast majority are young.

News out about them parking airplanes and sounds like possible bankruptcy if they don’t turn it around, souring economy may force it upon them whether they turn it around or not.
