Default Frontier or Spirit?

Hello everyone,

I’ve been at my regional for almost three years now. Luckily, I have opportunities to go to Frontier or Spirit soon. I live about an hour from a Spirit base and 25 minutes from a frontier base. Of course bases can change or close, they’re both pretty established based at least.

Who knows what will happen with the merger, so I know it’s kind of a gamble at this point. Given the choice between the two, which would you pick and why? I just want a good QOL as a top priority. Thanks!

I'd say go with the Spirit offer because you'll have access to Frontier base if the merger goes that way or a Jetblue pilot with potentially better contract upside if the merger goes that way.

That’s kind of my thinking as well. There seems to be a better upside for Spirit.

Kind of a tough choice.

I'm a firm believer in living as close to your domicile as possible. Makes day to day quality of life better. If you can get a quicker class date at one over the other, you have to factor in a possible seniority benefit there.

As for the merger stuff, theres still way more unknowns than anything. Anything could still happen, so I'm not sure it's wise to base your decision off of merger possibilities.

Care to share which domicile you live closest to?

I’m north of PHL. So I’m within an hour of ACY and also Newark.

I'd go to Frontier if I were you. I'm at NK, and there's no movement in ACY. PHL is junior for F9. If the JetBlue merger goes through, ACY is gone, you'll have EWR if you can hold it, but with Frontier on their own, their growth is unlimited. That's my thinking anyway. Good luck.

The JetBlue buyout will happen. NK will not turn down $700 million more. Plus, $33 per share for the shareholders, no way they won’t take that scratch! I do believe F9 will be better off on their own.

I keep hearing and reading this. But frontier’s dartboard route structure, infrequency of flights, propensity to open then 6 months later close routes, attrition issues, potential growth competition from Breeze/Avelo with lower cost structure, I just don’t think their growth prospects are quite as unlimited as some keep saying. Especially since every other existing airline seems to plan on growing as well, and in some/many markets compete aggressively. Guess we will see one way or another.

Frontier seems like a no brainer. Full pay and benefits from the beginning and driving 30 minutes to work is amazing.

If you live close to PHL, I think Frontier is your best bet.

Nothing beats a short drive to a junior domicile!
