Are you saying that your suits, watches, and cars don’t all cost the same amount? Apparently, $5,000 is a good price for all three of these items.

When the moms see me roll up, well, it’s like shooting fish in a barrel really. And that’s before they even know I’m a pilot. |
So far this thread is winning 2022.

Uh, yes. Yes you can. (Current car is 25 years old. Looks like $hit. Runs like a top. BECAUSE I MAINTAIN IT. Religiously. Gas mileage sucks though. LOL. Current "value" estimated $335-$3600 bucks.)
Cars (if you don't live in a metropolitan area with good public transport) are a wholly predictable expense. Like a new roof, HVAC, water heater, washer/dryer, refrigerator, etc. If you're surprised when they fail, I can't help you. Because THEY'RE ENGINEERED TO FAIL. Amazed that people don't monthly budget for the next car. "AHHHHH! My car broke!!! I need to beg a car salesman to lend me money on any terms for a new car!!! I thought it would last forever!!!" (FWIW, I've found government auto auctions to be a decent place for "good enough" cars that have been on federally funded maintenance schedules.) I do that with my airport car, which I actually got when my old man kicked the bucket and it was just sitting in my moms driveway collecting mold. However, I really love cars. I’ve read every issue of car and driver since about 1998. So I have a 700+ horsepower shiny noisemaker too. Gotta have a hobby. When the beater my wife was driving left her and the kids stranded on the freeway while I was recovering from a redeye in the Westin DTW I decided to get her a new car too. Mostly because I think the safety improvements are important and let’s be honest, we can totally afford a decent kid hauler off the dealer lot. Don’t get me wrong, I still played the game: waited till the end of the month, shopped around, pitted 3 dealers against each other and nailed down a less than 1% interest rate. Dave Ramsay would be shaking his head, but who Fin cares. |
I have a 1991 Nissan maxima I bought for 1k 10yrs ago that keeps going.
|
By the end of 2022 it will cost $5,000 just to buy a weeks worth of groceries and a tank of gas.
I’ll still refuse to spend more then that on a car though |

That I drove too in my Miata, while wearing $5000 suits and watches, that the pilot moms bought me. Yeah, it’s like that.

Hey, better than years while ago, when it was like tooo-buck 50 cent per pound. |

Likewise. But unlike Deltabound I don't like drivng beaters (or having them in my driveway) so I drop a little coin to maintain the paint and interior too, as needed.

Delta. Alaska. Southwest. Thank you |

Have your Mom start charging you less and stop eating out at Red Lobster then you only need to take home $60K and you can apply at Avelo. You seem like the kinda guy who could wear 8 stripes on each shoulder.

And after year 5 you're on year 20 pay until your flow date. That's right, 213/hr year 6 at a regional. Sent from my Pixel 3a using Tapatalk |

So cadet program, Envoy FO, 2 yr upgrade, flow in 5 or 6, and then take a 100K pay cut to be a mainline FO? Then work another 5ish yrs to get back to what you were making at Envoy? I'm confused.
|
Just so I understand:
Envoy negotiated a pay raise with a sunset provision? Seems like the smart money in a record hiring environment would be to leave as soon as possible to get on with the major of your choice asap anyway (seniority, better overall earning potential, job stability, etc) If you’re at Envoy and sixty years old, or don’t want to leave for other non-pay related reasons, this is ok, I guess. But it’s not going to stem the flow of pilots leaving for greener pastures the second they’re able. Maybe drum up some new entrants for a bit, but even those will leave as quickly as possible. |

It will, because pilots are stupid. They won’t be able to afford the pay cut. And more and more of them will justify staying. |
