SWA Reducing Min Requirements for Pilots

With the change 500 hours in a fixed wing turbine aircraft are now "preferred".

Back before the pandemic, I was invited to interview for the "Destination 235" program. SWA was going to do me the favor of me flying myself to Texas for and interview, me paying for all of my ratings at their preferred and overpriced flight school, me paying for my ATPCTP, me paying for my 73 type rating, and me working at some fly-by-night airline until I had the requisite time to fly for SWA. It goes without saying that I did't pursue that venture. I actually found it a bit insulting. It sounds like SWA is desperate for pilots now. It kind of serves them right.

No thx . I’ll stay put for now.
However, could living in base and no commuting outweigh the next 10 years in the right seat of the gup?? I’ll have to pick the great minds of APC and summon the spirit of Ms Cleo to get that answer. 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤣😂

Absolutely. It may be a long time to the left seat, but the life of a senior FO living in base is pretty darn good and can make a really good living. I'll even argue that seniorish SWA FOs living in base make more money and have a better QOL than the juniorsh captains at the other majors.
Really, it’s hard to argue for coming to SWA and this year’s NH class numbers show that.

Yes, but, and I’m currently in the figuring out where to land stage Major wise, but when the next ******* storm begins how will hiring change, how will the big 3 handle it, how will the massive retirements over 5 years handle it.
There are so many questions that it may behoove us as pilots to look more than 3 feet in front of our faces before we end up in another lost decade scenario- again, unlikely due to retirements now v then. A little caution goes a long way- at times.
Is this one of those times? Keeps you up at night man.
