Widget seniority is projecting I’ll be 2% relative seniority when I retire or around #400 at Delta. Not sure about United or AA

Yeah it’s a wild time. I’ve never heard of these airlines actually calling either. Both United and American gave me actual phone calls to talk about the next steps in the application process.

Do you forsee yourself moving to a base? If so which one? That would be my deciding factor. Hard to tell what I would do if i never planned on moving and commuting being equal.
maybe look at joint ventures and scope?
See where the company is heading based on past performance wrt flying your own metal.

100%. While I know others have had it harder than those of us in the lost decade, current youngin’s have it way better, and I am happy for them. I am thankful to have started the lost decade at a very young age and have finally gotten through it before the age of 40.

The look on some of the new generations faces when I tell them how long I was at a regional, how long it took to upgrade, and how being high time wasn’t a choice is pretty amusing.

Yep. When TWA was bought by AA shortly after 9/11, pilots with less than about 10 years got furloughed. Every single TWA FA was furloughed, without exception. That included 40 year senior mommas. This world stands the “lost decade” folks on their head.

Lol what? They literally called you to say what exactly? That is a first. I have a few AF buddies and I only know one who claimed someone in UAL Pilot Hiring sent him an email to just submit the app and don’t worry about some of the details delaying the app submission.

I found that claim fascinating because I was under the impression they could not see your application until it was submitted.

I was a regional FO at the time. I went through a long term training event with a flowback TWA pilot as a sim partner. He had been a check airman, was downgraded to FO, then furloughed and ended up at Eagle.

A lost decade can happen again. While I envy our current young pilot opportunities, I wouldn’t trade my experiences; our generation has a wealth of them and they will be of value for the next generation.

Like my football coach used to say, “the football rolls funny ways. You have to keep playing until the whistle blows.”

Its a long game after all.

Do yourself a favor and read some of the many "UAL/AA go to DAL?" threads. There is a lot of useful info in there about how many DAL has hired since 2014. Somewhere around 9000 and counting (and more every week, ~500 this year alone). So even if your age means you will outlast many of those other pilots and end up at 2% where will you be for the first 5, 10, 15 years?

I'm not trying to dissuade you from DAL, it's a mostly great place to work and if you like one of its bases, especially a junior base it's a no-brainer.

Just think about where you'll be on the seniority list for the bulk of your career instead of the very end and how much that affects QOL and earnings potential.

Yeah I hear ya. I got hit by all the major events of the last 20 years, 9/11, '08, 2011 BK's and COVID. Amazing that these younger pilots have the opportunities they are getting and while I wished it was me, it's oamazing that they are getting them.

To the OP, if bases didnt matter at all, which I think you should really give that some thought, I 'thing' I would go DL, UA then AA. Bases should matter though because you will want to not commute at some point (trust me on this) and the choice of base needs to fit your lifestyle and your partners lifestyle. If I were to take the bases into consideration, I would pick AA, UA, DL because I think DL has the worst bases in the system and I dont want to live in any of them.
