Default Where to live if MDW based...

I'm looking for some information as far as good places to live around Chicago if I was to be MDW based. I have 2 young kids so we'd like nice, family friendly neighborhoods. I have no idea where to start as far as good area's. I have heard that some people live in Indiana and drive over. I really don't want to commute....
Thanks in advance.

alaskafo... their are alot of great towns around chicago... and if you don't mind driving an hour some places are reasonably priced. It just depends on the size of town you would like to live in. I have 4 little ones... our public schools are fantastic, and I am about 45 mins from Midway. Town is called Morris. There are also really good schools and nice towns near here and closer to the airport. Channahon, Coal City, Diamond, Willmington, Dwight.

Get further north, and the price jumps quite a bit.

pm ME if you wand details

Indiana is also a pretty good deal for some people..though you need to be careful about some of those neighborhoods I am told

I lived there for 11 years growing up we lived not even five minutes from Midway. I would look locally as most of the areas around Midway are just fine. Private schools are better if you want to live close but there are enough of them. The best part about living near the aiport is all the local food there. Even if you go to just look you have to try some of the Polish Delis there, their amazing. Good luck in your search Chicago has a lot to offer so im sure you wont have too much trouble.

If you are willing to drive a bit, and want completely out of the city, head towards the DeKalb/Rockford area. Good schools, prices are much more reasonable etc etc.

Try your "Hardest" to stay away from having to drive on I-80/94/90/65.....it's always under construction and always backed up because of the toll booths.....They just showed it 12 miles of back up today, on a Sunday, and it's 100000% worse during the weekday/rush hour.

I can't suggest anything about schools as I'm single and live here close to Wrigley Field for partying purposes, which is nowhere near midway. However the cities west of Chicago, like Naperville, Batavia, {Yorkville & Oswego are really family friendly safe newer affordable communities}, Planefield, Joliet are all pretty safe areas in Chicagoland. They are "west" of midway and traffic coming from there to midway is not as bad as from Indiana or Michigan.

Midway airport is located of I-55.........be advised that I-90/94/80 (and some parts of I-57) all connect and are under construction usually where they are merge is from 4-5 lanes from each interstate to a total of 2 lanes.....traffic sucks......If you live west (the towns I named) you won't have to worry about that.

Good Luck.....oh and those cities have METRA train stops so if you, the wife, and the kids ever do want to come into the city of Chicago, just goto the Metra stop in your city, park your car, hop on the train and miss all the traffic. www.metrarail.com

A great place to live is 20 min. from MDW. Oak Lawn, IL starts at 87TH and Cicero. Airport is at 63rd and Cicero a mere 3 mile away.

I grew up in Naperville and its a great town to raise kids in. The schools are great and the area is very safe. When I visit my parents I usually fly into MDW and the drive isn't too bad from the airport.
