Motorcycle commute
#81
I am a 80% air commute, but have ridden to work when it's nice. 368 miles one way to JFK.
But that's only really an option April-September.
Last time I rode up, I just had clothes/flight kit in a backpack. I have a 2nd LW Bag at the pad in NYC that I keep for storage there, but will use if I ride to work.
Bike?
1982 Honda CX500 Turbo (look at screen name, it now makes sense)
I've also gone up on my 2003 Bonneville. Same thing.. Backpack with bare min stuff. I keep a full trips worth of everything at the pad and at home.. So I can leave from home on a DDH and if I'm up in NY on the bike, I only have to bring my "lunchbox" with my certs, and my CPAP. All fits in a backpack.

There's nothing cooler than airline pilots.
Except airline pilots who ride motorcycles.
(I tried the motorcycle thing at Wally World Regional Airlines when I lived in a rented box apartment and made $13k/yr. Didn't work then, won't work now.
Why in god's name would a Delta pilot consider this? Just watch that Tom Hanks movie "The Terminal", live in the airport, and you'll have a smoking hot C Zeta-Jones fa eating out of your hand in no time.)

And there’s nothing more tiresome than pretentious pseudo-intellectualism.
Except airline pilots that cite authors of pseudo-intellectual books.
Just watch the Mickey Rourke movie ‘Barfly’, hang out at hipster-cool dive bars and you’ll have a once glamorous now faded glory Faye Dunaway trying to save your misunderstood alcoholic genius carcass.
They’re both lifestyle choices.

The 500 has a decent screen akin to a modern-ish sport tourer in both riding position and wind blockage.
I live in the Hampton Roads area (Virginia Beach) and I basically never ride unless going west of 95 or up the eastern shore, because the local drivers here in Hampton Roads just flat out suck.
In NYC, it's crazy but they drive a certain way.. Same as Boston, and Chicago.
Problem with riding in Hampton Roads and DC, is nobody is from here, so they all drive how they did back home and it just sucks. Suzie from small town Kansas letting everyone go, followed by my wife from Queens driving my F-450 like it's a sports car. (I am married to basically Fran Drescher's younger sister with a side helping of Marissa Tomei from My Cousin Vinny), followed by a dude from CA not stopping at any light, and then the German Airforce neighbor who basically thinks shore drive in the Autobahn.. And that's just the four people on my end of the street.

No screen on the Triumph. I tried one but it just causes weird helmet buffet and doesn't take enough wind blast off in cold weather to be bothered with.

I’ve made a few comments on this thread already but want to follow up;
I grew up riding in Los Angeles; the motorcycle culture and general scene there is incredible.
I just rode for the first time through the downtown of another major city during rush hour. 100% different vibe, I didn’t feel comfortable at all. I don’t think I’ll ever ride my bike in this area as a commuter ever. Really disappointed actually, was looking forward to riding again
