Just listened to a podcast about this very subject in which long time divorce lawyer said that although this stat is true, much of the disparity is generally it's the man who lets his wife know that he's gone to hawaii with the secretary and she's left holding down the fort with kids and her only recourse at that point (especially if the man is the breadwinner) is to file a divorce and get a court order for support.

You have some control over that... hook up with a good one, and do your part to keep her happy.

Pro tip... consider her family roots. Her path is likely to be similar. Although some people who came from a bad situation are determined not to repeat it.
