In general, ORD and SFO are the most junior. ORD is too cold, and SFO is too expensive. I believe 60-65% of all SFO pilots commute.

DEN is very senior. SEA is the most senior. IAD varies between fleets.

ORD went most senior in our class followed by a SFO bid then a couple of DEN before ending with LAX and SFO as most junior. DEN has been very senior but there seems to be a bit of movement so new hires are able to bid DEN in some of the new hire classes.

UAL Domicile Seniority
 

Just looked up the unimatic page for junior-man in each seat. Here they are, by equipment and seat, the # 1 and 2 most junior seats:

747-400 Capt: DCA, SFO
F/O: SFO, LAX

777 Capt: DCA, SFO
F/O: SFO, DCA

767 Capt: LAX, SFO
F/O: SFO, DCA

320 Capt: SFO, LAX
F/O: LAX, SFO

737 Capt: DCA, ORD
F/O: DCA, ORD


Note: this only tells PART of the story.

The junior-man page just tells who is on the bottom rung of the ladder. It does NOT tell you the distribution of guys above that rung. For that, you need to see the Domicile Roster list. If you have Skynet access, look under Domicles.

From the above, a common theme of SFO, DCA, and LAX emerges for that bottom-guy. They tend to have a linear distribution of seniority in those domicles, with no bottlenecks or "bulges."

ORD doesn't make the top-two for "juniority," but it does have a lot of junior guys. It is the opposite of a bulge--dare I call it a trough? Because it has a lot of pilots, there tends to be more relative-seniority movement there.

SEA, on the other hand: the junior 737 F/O has the seniority to be a 767 CAPT in 4, yes FOUR domiciles. SEA is a domicile where everybody is senior. Big-bulge; no movement.

This is meant as a guide for new-hires who will discover, after their initial honeymoon-enthusiasm wanes, that they are the catfish (ie, bottom-feeder) in a pool of very senior barracudas. Pcik your domicile carefully if you want to become a line-holder or have bigger equipment-bid opportunities.

ORD & DCA are good domiciles at UAL to move up quickly on the 320 or 737... I would not recommend going west or DEN

In response to the question about internal recs, complete your online application. Then contact whomever you know internally and ask them to fill out the online recommendation on SkyNet. They will need your name and the e-mail address you used to apply to UAL. The rec gets submitted after you reply.
