CNX'd flights
Well, I am glad to see the problem going public but I wish the reason wasn't so blurred. I also wish I wasn't trying to get back to MEM today . My wife and I have been stuck in YUL for the last 2 days. I think NWA cnx'd 4 flights from here yesterday. It was enough to oversell every airline with flights back to the states.
That said if the mngmt thinks the pilots are trying to make a point, maybe when a few more carriers start turning up the heat they will truly see the light.
This should provide a little more bargaining power with the shortage starting to creep ever closer towards the majors and more regional CA's not willing to take that initial paycut to jump ship at the current jobs.

Also, this comes into play a lot as well. Regionals have many outstations as crew bases. TYS, RIC, CMH, COS, GSO, IND, DAY, just to name a few. For someone who isn't interested in commuting, its tough to take little Johnny off the basketball team in GSO and move to LAX!
Interesting question for sure.

Whatever the reason I'll boycott NW until they get their act together. It's going to be tricky since I live in MEM, but I'd rather have to make connections through DFW or ATL then get stranded somewhere because the guys who run NW don't know how to manage its flight crews.

Hi!
NWA has a contract clause that states that if they're at 90 hrs or more for the month, they don't have to fly any more unless they want to-the company can't take any negative action against them.
They've been aggressively scheduling guys with lots of hours, which leaves little to spare. They are cutting their Aug schedule so they won't have to cancel flights at the last minute.
I commuted Fri and Sun and had no problems, even going hub to hub from MSP-DTW. They replaced a -9 or a -320 with a -330 for the 6:40 flight to try and make enough seats on that route. My buddy commutted tonight at the same time and they used a 747-400 to fly that route! They have been using the -330 for domestic turns to try and take up the slack.
I think about 1/2 the Regional capts won't leave, unless it's UPS/FedEx/SWA, or whatever airline they feel is in the top tier.
I have not applied at UAL or NWA.

so what % of captains do you think don't want to go to the majors?
American Eagle has a program to "help" our senior Capt's "move on." I'll bet NONE of the first 500, maybe 50% of the next 500 will even think about it. Most of these guys are making 100K and holding weekends off. Why would they want to voluntarily subject themselves to NW or UAL's reserve? The few that are applying are only looking at FedEx, UPS, or SWA. The only people I've heard getting hired at CAL or even DAL are FO's!
