Default UAL Denver Question

Noticed that the last newhire classes split evenly between ORD & DCA. Could anyone provide insight as to the seniority of DEN as a domicile for the 737/A320? Wondering home long for a new hire to get to DEN? Thanks

I don't have the figures in front of me... but generally it does not take long to lateral to DEN... but things change all the time based on bids.

It wasn't exactly evenly split between ORD and DCA. 4 of 19 assignments were to ORD and the rest were DCA. There are 5 vacancies in Denver for the March bid on the 737. I assume there will be some movement by the senior guys to Denver, but you never know...it may go to one of the new hires.

Are you planning on living in/near DEN? DEN tends to be pretty senior, so while you may be able to lateral there, you'll likely be on reserve for a LONG time.
The junior hubs historically have been SFO and ORD. With IAD expansion, DCA has been added to the list of junior hubs.

If you live in the DEN area, it doesn't matter that you'd be sitting reserve. I am not a fan of commuting because it sucks up a lot of your free time. That is, unless you like hanging out in airports.

Why is SFO a junior base?

Cost of living. Horrible to commute in/out of.
I commuted to SFO when I flew for Ryan International. Wouldn't wish a SFO commute on anyone.

Yeah - Denver would be a great place for us to live post-military. Thanks for the insight on QOL stuff. Obviously I go to what and where I can hold, but Denver would be great for family life.
