remember when gas was under a buck a gallon? (spare me on fuel hedges)

I am not sure what your point is or was.................My qoute was in response to over capacity and Low Cost Carriers!( LCCs)

I was simply staiting that with all aircraft having in excess of 80% load factor, over capacity is not the problem..........Yield is the problem.

My other point was that LCCs are not new to the industry, they have always been around. They come and go.

Thumbs down B6 to VA?

Just heard a real good one. Apparently, VirginAmerica has interviewed many senior JetBlue Captains recently. One of my furloughed colleagues at JetBlue says they're just 'testing the waters' to see what Virgin is offering. I doubt senior JetBlue A320 Captains would leave, especially since they'll probably open up an OAK base. Real nice of them to take up all the interviews even though they're not really serious about leaving, isn't it?

They still haven't even gotten their authority to operate from the DOT yet. Probably just a lot of speculation over nothing.

Just checked out their "mins" if you want to call them that. 5k total time with 2k PIC and an A320 type. If they are going to build an airline with any size those are going to have to come down some. All the "established" companies hiring now are all asking for about 1/2 that much. I wonder if these mins are for the first six pilots to work with the FAA to get certified? Thoughts?

My thought is that is an insurance requirement. Reno Air had a minimum of 5K total time when they started.

Yea, figure the initial 50 people will go straight to the left seat of the 320 and most will be check airmen/instructors. I would bet the mins drop after they fill the left seats.

Default Be happy... don't worry.

What's with all the concern and speculation... no DOT approval... the FAA won't allocate their funds for the manuals review until the DOT says OK to Virgin's application. And then a minimum of 8 months to a year before the proving runs. There's alot of lobbying in DC against V/A and not to mention the lack of patience of the alleged investors. Seems to me that Virgin ain't going to be much of a virgin, if you get my meaning.

It was pretty much that same way at ‘start up’ at Federal Express. Most of the initial ‘hires’ were high time, mature military retirees and others with former airline operating experience. You are overlooking the safety aspect.

You want to buy a bunch of new jets and turn them over to a cadre of ‘nuggets’ in the left seat?

It would be a recipe for disaster to spend all that money a throw a bunch of low time, inexperienced captains out there to operate in an unfamiliar regime -under all weather conditions.

In our case, the ‘customers’ were only trusting their 'boxes' to us. . NOT their lives. I know the traveling public is generally ignorant, but in this case they are planting their keister in the seats . . NOT their Priority One Letter. SO . . from a PR standpoint . . as well as common sense . . it makes good sense. Too bad they won’t hire ‘over 60’ types . . I haven’t met a virgin in years. <g>

I think SFO is a difficult location to hub out of...I feel bad for Alaska and Southwest... They will be forced to deal with much anxiety and perverbial drawing boards until our loyal and friendly government realizes that Virgin America is not an AMERICAN company at all!!! Imagine if we went to london? Opened a hub out of gatwick? called it American UK? or United Germany? It just wont happen becasue their governments would never allow it... Are they going to be ALPA?
