how to make it the first year...
#1
Does anyone have some good ideas on how to make it through the first low paying year of an airline. Trying to not have to move in with my mother-in-law.
I have a wife and 2 small kids under 3. It would be pretty hard to live on $35,000 a year with a house payment and all that is associated with that. There has got to be something I have not thought about
Any help would be appreciated.

1. Start saving money like you mean it now... cutting $20k off of an $80k salary for a year will put you at $60 to spend this year and $55k next.
2. Don't go to someplace that pays that low.. unless its ups/fedex... then take the hit for the team...

Well she is not working right now, due to raising the kids. I dont want some wierdo raising my kids. But the hospital she used to work at, wants her to do some part-time work, so we will be putting that away.

My old lady worked my first few years and the spawns were in daycare. They weren't "weirdos" taking care of them and it was the only way feasable to make it on the first years pay. If the wife refuses I suggest a drastic cut in your living expenses.

My "WIFE" and I chose to have kids and raise them ourselves. I am not putting them in a daycare. I just dont like day cares. At this point, that is not an option.
Thanks for all the ideas though!!
Luckly where I work now, I can pick up extra days, so I am flying all I can now.

If you have a house with some Equity, you may consider getting a HELOC, and draw $500-1000 bucks a month to pay Bills. That is $6000-12000 a year, and you only have to make interest only payments (which are tax deductable).
I'm not saying it is the the wisest financial decsion, however, if you run a tight budget and use the HELOC for necessities (Utility Bills, Food, etc.) it will work.
Then pay it off on 2nd to 3rd year pay of Major Airline pay.
The wife can stay at home and you can stay out of your mother-in-laws.
