As a CAL pilot, I said clearly that I disagree.

Admit it.

Being a west coast commuter you simply want as many options as you can get. If Go Jet started flying LA to EWR you'd be all over that. Your position is a position of selfishness to your decision to commute. You could care less what the pilots of the likes of VA are doing to your overall career.

Also, when CAL has to furlough and if it gets to you don't worry. VA will be happy to hire you while they are expanding but the pay will be half what your making now. Good luck to you over there. Hope it works out for ya.

Short sighted is all this is. Again, this is why the scabs at CAL have survived and prospered. No retributions what so ever.

Next tiem you see a CAL scab, a United scab, a VA pilot, or a GO Jet pilot give em a big wet kiss for me and apologize to them as well for my behavior.

You EWR based?? If so, I commute and sit prior to "pond" push.....let's do lunch, I want to hear more of your views live and in person.

SC

no I'm not EWR based. I've been through there a bit, it's my favorite way to the city...

Cal

I work at Jetblue and happy to be here. If you ever need a ride you are always welcome on our jumpseat. Thanks for your time.

Well if you ever find yourself in a jam and feel you can condescend to ride with a scumbag, you are welcome on the jumpseat anytime. I'll even make room for your bag up front for you to save you the hassle.

Six pages and 53 posts later, I have yet to see someone make a cogent case of how Alaska ought to handle this "threat" from VA. At least two posters hint of denying a jumpseat to VA pilots, but the majority thinks that the repercussions down the road that impact too many others is not worth the effort.

Personally, I find Rubberband's idea a bit intriguing, but it will only work if there is strong leadership and a collective will to not break ranks when the going gets tough. Until then, there must be some other way. I cannot believe that status quo is the answer.

Exhortations that pilots not lower the bar by accepting less than standard wages have fallen on deaf ears. People will always do what is best for themselves at any given time and place in their lives. What is good for one person may be just the opposite for someone else.

I've ridden on JB a few times out of FLL and EWR and the guys/gals up front and in the back have all been more than gracious to me. They are always welcome on my JS. Come on guys, can't we just treat each other with a little dignity and respect? Everyone can't fly for CAL or UAL or JB......... but we all have a common bond........ a love for flying. Can't we just be happy with that? :(

what does having a common bond for flying have anything to do with trying to protect this industry from falling any further?

Everything! Lay the blame where it belongs. Unions selling each other out, management, 9-11,bankruptcy laws, and rising fuel prices. Your fellow pilot is, like you, a pawn in these matters and can do little if he is to survive in this chosen profession.

ALK management needs to reinvest in its employees and get the "Alaska Spirit" back. I'm sure all the employees at VA are excited to go to work everyday and help the company succeed. Alaska needs that back. Then it needs to make a capital investment in its A/C (ie. in-flight entertainment). Whatever happened to the WiFi testing? I think that would be a great start but will never happen. Very sad.

I blame those things as well. what I have a problem with is that pilots never hold themselves accountable for their own actions. It's the same old same old, someone elses fault. so why should I help them out while they are basically bringing the industry down.

can you tell me why we don't hold ourselves responsible for our part in bringing down this industry. it's like the guy who complains about 70+ seaters while he votes yes to let others fly them. no responsibility...
