You gotta love this.

http://www.pr-inside.com/pilot-s-gun...ys-r500698.htm

I would love to know the real story behind this one.

"It's true... we hit turbulence causing jet upset, and the weapon somehow leapt out of it's container from the momentary zero "G" condition... and weapon's safety somehow, by the miracle of the skygods, dislodged from safety to hot... and then the weapon fell to the floor causing it to discharge. Boy its a good thing none of the flight attendants hurt themselves with hot coffee during the upset".

Thank god for the continuous loop on the CVR. Must have really impressed the F/O too.

I have no details but I'm gonna bet he was doing something stupid.

For the record, there is no shooter engaged safety on that particular derivative of weapon... point and pull = bang.

Maybe he was a real professional:

You've obviously never been through the program out in NM then. Before you make judgements, I'd highly recommend taking the time to get out there and attend the weeklong course.

If at the end of the week you don't want to participate, you still end up completing one of the best training courses that's available to cockpit flight crews. Personally, I think that all of the lectures and defense/mindset training should be required in basic indoc.

Safety or no safety... I still would love to be a fly on the wall whilst Wyatt Earp does his carpet dance before the chief pilot and FAA.

It was only a matter of time until this happened. I'm surprised it didn't happen earlier.

Ditto on what FlyerJosh said. This is the Best most Professional flight training course a crewmember could ever attend. The defensive training course was worth the expense. Obviously flyguyniner doesn't remember Sept. 11, 2001. Amazing

In the interest of keeping this discussion going (and the thread from being closed like all of the other ones), let's leave that particular (and other) specifics out of the thread.

If you want to know, get hired with a 121 airline and ask an FFDO.

That said, it's no secret how police officers, federal agents, and other law enforcement officers carry their weapons.
