I think these cuts will exceed the extra manning required to bring NWA up to DAL's rules...if those work rules are even negotiated into the combined contract, which is not a given. The pre-meger proposal is void, and labor's bargaining power is eroding every day; there's no telling how much more mgmt will try to squeeze us.

I think there is also going to have to be some fleet "reshuffling" (dump 330s? 742s?) to reduce NWA's and DAL's fleet disparities...and some hubs will have to be downsized or "synergized" at some point.

I'm not trying to be a "sky is falling" kind of guy; just a realist. If you look at the beating we're taking on fuel, the worst is ahead...even with the merger(s). only my opinions...I'm not "in the know" by any means. but I am filling out a NJA application.

I could see dumping the 742's, but not the A330s. They're new, and much more fuel efficient then the 767's. I could see keeping the cargo, using some 767's to replace the 742's and using new 777's to cover the 767's. I also think you would see hub's close before you see and entire international fleet dumped.

I hear ya! This stesses me out too. I don't think these prices are good but I do remember the airlines saying we would all go under at 50 then 70 then it was 90 then the magical 100....Again I am not saying this is good but I am seeing a trend. Then magical huge multimillion dollar executive bonus checks in mergers???????? See you on the line.

I agree it might be a stretch to drop 330s...but Air France and KLM might be happy to pick up a few more...and the common 767/757 type rating equates to minimal (if any) training requirements for NWA 757 guys. might be worth it to keep 76s until the 78s show up in a few years.

then again, we'll need the int'l revenue provided by the 330s... should be interesting. some fleet consolidation is imminent, though...
