Will be commuting tomorrow on 88's.
All DAL's 88's passed the inspection the first time.

Excellent. Unfortunately all FAA inspectors are not created equally. I just got a brief from an MX type, we're in compliance with the AD and the ECO, except that the FAA inspector didn't like the orientation of the ties used to secure the wire bundle. They didn't match the pretty picture in his book. This is the equivalent of a cop pulling you over and busting a tail light with his night stick and citing you for it.

The FAA is doing some serious CYA in Texas, they're running for their bureaucratic lives and it doesn't matter who is run over.

Definitely a PR blitz for the FAA, notice how there havent been any MX problems/groundings at any smaller carriers?

I didn't think DC-9s had any wiring. Just a bunch of hamsters running around underneath the floor and in the dashboard.

If this is the SB/AD that I think it is, it applies only to the MD-80 series - no DC-9s. NWA is off the hook.

This same type of "eyewash for the public" happened to one of my previous carriers. Express One Int'l was one of the largest privately owned airlines in the world. We had over 40 727's and DC-9's. The FAA came in and did an inspection and literally shut us down over night. T. Allan McArtor (previous FAA administrator), was hired by the company to find out what was going on and found out it was all "for show" to make it look like the FAA was doing something after that DC-8 went down in MIA due to the cargo shifting. Some of the violations EOI received as a result of the inspection were: "inspections and AD's not complied with" (these were on 727's we had received from AA, and TWA. The inspections were supposed to have been completed something like 10 years before EOI even got them!!), there were a few french words written on the MX manuals (yep, that was a violation!!), etc. Needless to say, after the owners got their high powered attorney's to find out what was really going on, EOI was told they could start up ONLY if they didn't go after the FAA and inspectors. The american public must be awfully happy to see the airlines going through this since we seem to be cut from the same cloth as used car salesmen and attorneys................

I believe this has to do with an AD that was issued 1 1/2 years ago and AA simply did not comply within the required timeframe. I'm afraid this may have more to do with AA management dropping the ball.

I like to compare this all to Britney Spears. It seemed like the public liked kicking her when she was down and it was their mission to torture her until she committed suicide.

Now its time to do the same things to the airline industry. Lets kick them all as hard as we can when their down and hope that they all fail.
